Hey Bob, I too booked the Explore Scientific event. Just saw that you are going to that same event! My plan is to be there with my sister but we will see how things go, one of my immidiate family is expecting a baby and that might chanage plans but for now, we plan to be there.

Way cool!!!  Hope you and your sister can make it, but yes, family does come first.  There should be some dark skies for your photo kit the nights before the main event.  Even Omega Centauri will be visible.

Just an FYI,

There are still quite a few RV parks and state park campgrounds with available sites just outside totality.  Since there is only a 50% chance of clear skies at any one location you can make a base camp there, observe weather conditions the day prior and recon possible observing locations.  Then make an early morning assault on your chosen observing site.  Once the eclipse is over head back to your base camp nearby and avoid 90% of the ensuing Texas gridlock heading towards population centers.

This was an effective method we used in 2017.

Another option are Corps of Engineers campgrounds. The other day when I looked there were a few available sites here and there that were in the path of totality.

The upcoming solar eclipse outside of Dallas, TX will be here before you know it. RV Campgrounds are already booked, but you're not too late! Southern Star Events is partnering with Old Bison Ranch, an incredibly beautiful 600 acre uniquely Texas ranch, and we will be hosting RV spots that include fishing, live music, food trucks and more! We are also surrounded by incredible solar eclipse festivals. Book yours before the spots are gone!

4:22 seconds of TOTALITY!

If anybody is still on the fence and looking for a Texas campsite, Explore Scientific sweetened the deal by offering a FREE T-shirt when you book a spot at their camping event on a private ranch just north of Leakey, Texas.  See ya there!!!

We pulled in and got set up late Friday afternoon. It's been pretty breezy since then. We'll be going on a nature walk at 10:00am this morning.
