Part 4 of my series of animations covering the evolution of the spectrum

This covers the period when the brightness dropped rapidly before resuming its gentle decline so I have included animations both scaled to 1 at 5500A as per the other animations and in absolute flux, calibrated using V magnitude values

Your animations are very smooth, I guess the software you use cleverly interpolates stuff, otherwise they'd surely be jumpy rather than having the odd gap?  You seem as though you've quite lucky with the weather during some stages, possibly near nightly.

 

Just in case :- not meant as any form of criticism, just impressed with how good the thing looks.

Yes there is a lot of interpolation to make these smooth animations. The way the animations are constructed is detailed on each of the pages eg for this one

 

"Generated using ISIS software from 5 observations interpolated at 1 day intervals and animated at 10fps"

 

The actual spectra used can be found in the BAA database however and should be referred to for any scientific application.

 

Generally I tried to get enough observations so that the evolution of the spectrum is progressive between observations and the animations are reasonably representative. In this 4th phase however, although there are observations near the mid and end  point of the sudden drop in brightness, the start of the  drop was not caught so the rate at which the flux drops at the start of the animation is not representative.

This covers the emergence of "forbidden" lines [O I] and [Ca II] as the supernova moves into the nebular phase

(I moved over from the ALPY600 to my lower resolution modified ALPY200 when the brightness became fainter than 15.5)
