EQ6-R Pro mount, PHD2, Nina. After calibrating E of the Meridian I can get very good tracking (RMS 0.50/0.60) pointing to a DSO E of the Meridian, yet when I slew the scope to a Westerly DSO using the same very good calibration RA just goes off the grid. If I then calibrate West of the Meridian the situation is reversed.

The only way to achieve good tracking both East and West of the Meridian is by using the Flip tool in PHD2, prior to starting any tracking, then all is well and I get the good RMS total.

I have been informed that it could be a side-of-pier issue on the RA motor. I have also got PEC running, but the curves are more like the various peaks in the Himalayaslol.gif Any ideas please?

Thanks

Tony.

Sounds like a balance issue, pulls the motor after the meridian flip and no amount of pec will fix that.

There’s a switch in advanced settings to “Reverse DEC output after Meridian flip”. Your mount may require it to be checked.

The EQ6R does not require the Reverse Dec setting, so you should look to make sure that it ISNT set would be my take. It seems a bit far fetched to me that the driver, which has been around forever is going to report side of pier incorrectly in any EQ6R, IF the time, date and location are correct. So, check those if the guiding is running away.

So, my question is are you using an ST4 cable? Where did you calibrate the guider? Can you post a guiding log.

The simplest explanation, IMHO, is that an ST4 cable is being used OR the guider calibration is either to far from DEC 0 or has actually failed for some reason.

Finally, the classic answer (without seeing the guding log) is that this particular mount needs to be east heavy. I have never understood how this can help but there are a myriad of threads that start like this and end up with the OP reporting that's been something that helped.

Again, please post the log.
