(WarpAstron) released China's first equatorial instrument with servo motor direct drive - WARPSPEEDDriveWD-17S (with RA axis electromagnetic brake) in December 2022. WD-17S relies on servo direct drive technology to achieve an average The WD-17S achieves an average guiding accuracy of 0.3~05" RMS with only 3.8kg of full equatorial weight (supporting Losmandy wide and Vixen narrow orbits).
WD-17S adopts harmonics of type 17 and 14 as reducers for RA and DEC axes respectively. The cylindrical body structure achieves a compact arrangement of servo motor direct drive structure, while the wall thickness of up to 1cm ensures the high strength of the overall structure. With the high torque input from the servo motor, the WD-17S can run a load of 15kg (without counterweight) at a distance of 25cm from the right ascension axis.
WD-17S adopts servo motor direct drive method, which has higher transmission efficiency compared with harmonic equatorial instrument using synchronous belt or planetary wheel assisted reduction mechanism.
The high response speed advantage brought by the servo motor solves the difficulty that the harmonic equatorial instrument is plagued by the period error. Whether the harmonic reducer itself has a period error of 10 arc seconds or up to 30 arc seconds or more, the servo direct drive technology ensures the same excellent guiding accuracy.

The net weight is 3.8KG, with a protective box of 5.6kg, and the ASIAIR Box guide star has an accuracy of less than 0.5 (within 15kg load), making it very suitable for outdoor astronomical photography. Especially for enthusiasts who enjoy traveling with devices

This is very interesting, i really like the design aesthetic used on this mount. I'm very keen to see how well this unit performs.

You can browse the detailed introduction of this link. At the end of the product introduction, we have attached some test data for April PHD2,

The current price is mainly for opening up the market, and the performance pricing of servo motors should be higher. Currently, servo motors are only used by us and Rainbow,

Compared with the traditional harmonic Equatorial mount which uses planetary reduction gear and synchronous belt, our direct drive design has more advantages

Robert -- I will be replying to your email tomorrow. Your mount looks very interesting. I want you to have access to many astro-apps without them needing to implement special code or (ugh) the LX200 protocol. I am an app developer (ACP)  like SGP, NINA, Sky Safari, MaxIm, TheSky, Cartes duCiel, HnSky, etc. With one connection you can be accessible from all of these. Details tomorrow. (it's late right now :-)

Well, I hope this new program is very compatible, so it's much more convenient to operate and doesn't require so many complex protocols

There are currently no comments from international users yet

There are some PHD2 test logs and comments from Chinese users

Perhaps you can be the first user to post a comment on YouTube, and we can offer free returns. Haha

Cuiv? I know him

His comments on the product are very objective and truthful,

I will write an email to communicate with him about this matter later,

See if he is interested in the mount of harmonic Equatorial mount

thanks

Robert, I am very interested in the mount, but there is very limited amount of information on your website. For example, 1) How can I install an additional counterweight for a heavy telescope? AM5 and UMi17has a thread for a counterweight. However, I am not if this option is available on WD-17S.

2) Does it know its home position? Is there any emergency brake to stop the mount when it goes to a wrong pose?

WD-17S has screw holes for installing counterweight rods (M12 standard interface)

RA axis and DEC axis servo motors both come with encoders, and the RA axis comes with electromagnetic brakes

it's remember its home position after powered up. and you can set return to home position once observation completed. The mount will remember its current position as home position once powered on.

While the home position will be lost if incidently powered off, and you can reset it by manual home reset or align function.

Update information

For international users, wired manual controllers are configured by default,(Same as wireless handle, with lower delay,)

Because the lithium battery of the wireless controller is difficult to pass aviation inspection

Avoiding cable entangling might be preferential. Why not to give both options, and send the controller without the battery, so we can purchase it locally?

Interested in this mount for its capacity/size ratio and portability. However I am visual only, would use ideally in Alt-azimuth orientation only. Is this what you mean by the description "theodolite" ?

Type: German equatorial/theodolite

Not familiar with OnStep, but by web search, it seems that there are planetarium programs which would help me with goto and tracking?

https://instein.eu/i...ategory&path=25

Or maybe (local to me) Bob Denny would know hot to use Sky Safari or Nexus DSC ?

Although it is a wired controller, it can be unplugged at any time when you are not using it. It is connected to the Mount through a USB cable

Yes, the Theodolite mode I mentioned means Alt azimuth, which is also suitable for visual observation

Support mainstream mobile apps on the market to control Mount for GOTO goals (such as Sky Safari/Stellarium (Planetarium programs)
