Just looking at an 110mm ED Altair scope but wondered if it would sit well on my EQ-3 mount?

Also wondered if it would offer more than I get with my 127 Mak in terms of Planetary and lunar views?

Thanks,

Chris. (UK)

That scope would be fine on a EQ3/ CG4, I use a AR127 on my CG4 up to 254x and higher but you have to focus between the jiggles when going that high, but it tracks steady with slow motion controls, even better with a RA drive, but for low to med power its fine, this scope would do even better than the AR127 but this also depends on the manufactured tolerances.

I say go for it.

Despite similar aperture these two scopes would compliment each other really well. There would be very few nights when you would notice the difference on planets. For other targets the quality of the sky would be very important.

I put recently to test my fairly new, clean 127 Mak against a little older 120 ED on Epsilon 1 Lyrae, resolving A and B of this double system was equally hard.

One other important metric, with the short tube of this ED the Mak would not stand a chance in terms of the TFoV, that's why they would fit well jn one's telescope collection.

Thanks for the advice.
I'm trying to find the weight of the ED110 and it looks to be around 6kg (13lb).
The Mak is about half that. With my interests being mainly Lunar and planetary, I'm going to have to think about this.
But I am attracted to the Refractor..
