I have been out of the loop for sometime and have discovered that the 5 book series deep sky companion book The Secret Deep is astronomically high in price (no pun intended) like 300-900 dollars? Why.

Apparently there are people that are adept at identifying out of print books. They list them for outrageous prices on Amazon. Can't tell you if anybody is ever desperate enough to pay those prices, though.

I hope that the out-of-print volumes of this series are re-printed. I have all of them and really like them.

Not very likely I'm afraid.  Cambridge got out of the amateur astronomy book publishing business.
