Nightfall AstroImaging Conference and Star Party Still Has Space Available.

November 9-12, 2023

Borrego Springs, CA.  - The First Dark Sky Certified Community in California by the International Dark Sky Association.

Palm Canyon Hotel and RV Resort - This premiere resort offers both hotel rooms and RV sites so you can choose accommodations that meet your needs.

For over 30 years, amateur astronomers have been gathering under the dark skies of the Borrego Springs California desert at Nightfall, a star party at the Palm Canyon Hotel and RV resort. The resort features two pools, a restaurant and bar, and all the comfort of a hotel and rv resort.

The organizers provide for workshops, a swap meet, a reception, a star-be-cue, an ice cream social, and, of course, a scorpion hunt.

On Saturday this year, master astroimager Ron Brecher will be presenting a workshop to help imagers learn to get the most of their photos.

And, of course, there will be lots of observing and imaging from the RV and other observing sites.

For More information visit: www.nightfallstarparty.com   or to reserve your room or rv site call Highway West 805-691-8086.

I’ve been wanting to go to this forever! Just booked at room.

FYI they only seem to have queens available for rooms. I didn’t ask about the RV spots. I did ask if they were pet friendly but the lady didn’t know. I looked it up on hotels dot. Com and it appears that they are pet friendly for 35.00 per pet per day.

In talking to the people at the registration desk last Monday, I found there were only 22 places (hotel and RV spots) left.

If you are planning on going, it would be good to make plans soon.

As Nightfall approaches (only seven weeks now) we have only three spots left at the resort. And we are running out of room for the Ron Brecher Astroimaging Workshop.

(See below for contact and registration information.)

We are firming up our list of presenters. So far we have:

Simon Tang: “Latest and Greatest Stuff”
Dr. Richard S. Eisenberg: “Astronomy and the Aging Eye”
Brian P Cox: “Star Hopping with a Dob”
Bruce Herwig: “Single, Stack, or Track: Taking and Editing Milky Way Images.”
Manny Leinz: “Building and Equipping a Remote Observatory”
Ken Graun: “Getting Started in Astronomy: From the Night Sky to Telescopes”
Jim Wayda: “Planning the 2024 Eclipse Excursion”
Ken Graun: “Solar System Walk”
RAS Outreach: “Solar Outreach”
FUJIFILM: “Night-Time Field Trip to the Breceda Metal Sculptures/Milky Way and the Monsters”

Dennis Mamanna: Constellation Tour

Of course, we will have the Welcoming Reception, Swap Meet, star-be-cue, ice cream social (and the scorpion hunt!!!!).

To reserve one of the last three sites, call 805 691-8086 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM PT, seven days a week. You can leave a message if you don’t catch them live. As always tell them that you are part of Nightfall.  They have promised to make a “wait list” if they are full.

While it is nice to stay at the venue, you are not required to stay at the Palm Canyon. Anza Borrego State Park is a half mile down the road, and there are other accommodation in Borrego Springs. You may set your rig up in the observing or imaging areas and go stay where you like (while leaving equipment up has not presented any problems in the past, be careful what you leave, and you are still responsible for it!)

To register for the Premium Astro Imaging Workshop with Ron Brecher:

http://nightfallstar....com/workshops/

To volunteer to give a presentation or help in any other way-----or just for questions and such: just send me a pm on Cloudy Nights here.

Alex

I'm all booked for 2024! Who's going!? I'm going to try to bring three rigs: my CGX-L w/ 5" refractor and a SWSA 2i with a camera and lens for imaging and an 8" StarSense Dob for visual. If I've bit off more than I can chew, I can always spit it out! Gonna get there a day early on Halloween afternoon. BOO!

This information is mostly about the 2023  Nightfall Star Party. Could we please close off this thread so it does not confuse people. The 2024 edition is coming up in six weeks or so, and I don't want people mixing last year's information with this year's.

If you would like to start a new thread, please go ahead. But we should leave last year to last year. (Note Nightfall 2024 has only two rooms left at the resort!)

Thanks.

Alex
