Has anyone seen this?  It looks like an even better option (other than price) than the A81M:

The Stellamira 80mm f/10 has been around awhile. It is "fpl 53 type" plus Lanthanum glass ED. They get good press on CN. The ota is about 300usd more than the last price of the A81M achro ota in the US. Case is advertised as included. Should be a really nice long 80mm (in todays market f/10 vs f/7.5) and competitive in price with other ~1000usd 80ED ~f/7.

I would consider one if I did not have the refractors I have now.

Good viewing,

Dave

A81M was discontinued because Vixen are selling the "made in China" A80mf like hotcakes but the A81M was the replacement for the A80M and the 80M has been around since the early 70's. P-80M on Polaris, SP-80M on Super-Polaris, Custom-80M on alt-az and GP-80M on Great Polaris. These fine "Japan made optics" 3" F/11 refractors are super scopes and can be picked up on the used market in Japan for peanuts. Better and cheaper option for beginners than the A80mf IMO.

The A81M will be replaced by the AE81M.  If you can't beat them, assimilate them.

Not exactly a replacement of the A81M (Japan). The AE81M is made in China.

May be a replacement of the A80Mf (synta/china) ? Offered on basically the same mount packages as far as I can tell. A80Mf/Porta Y70,000, AE81M/Porta Y73,000

The A80Mf/AE81M on the Porta II looks to be competitive with the Starbase 80 package.
