It's probably all correct for what it is (Horizon) and unless that mount is for a 76mm tube, I don't think any of it is a Swift especially a 60mm 839. I've seen some similar Monolux that were partly gray and looked brown in photos. Also, if the mount and tripod were from a Swift, the legs would be darlk brown.

Thank you all that have replied via PM! It is beginning to look like this is our scope! I have one person who lives very close who will, hopefully, try to view the scope and get the S/N. If it is my scope then things will fly fast! My suggestion was to offer a deposit to hold it while they went for more cash, or something. That something would be the local PD. If I am correct, this is on a national data base as stolen. Transporting stolen property over state lines is a felony! The people that we suspect are all felons with jail time behind them! That really raises the stakes!

I'm not going to get the old man too worked up on what has transpired yet. He spent half the day in the hospital for unrelated item so I don't want to risk sending him back if this isn't our scope. Not that he would but, why take a chance?

Please, everyone, stay on top of this and in touch. I will be monitoring the PM until late tonight.

I may have posted this in a reply instead of here because I'm fielding a fair number of helpful replies. Anyway, now it is here where it all began. LOL

Thank you everyone for your help and understanding!

Curved tube to counter gravitational lensing, yeoksi?

I don't agree. The radius would be much less for a GLC (Gravitational Lensing Compensated) telescope.

FYI to all:

A few CN members have really stepped up to the plate and hit some home runs regarding the possible stolen Carton telescope. We are moving in for the kill shortly. IF it is the stolen gear then it will be a major blow to the trouble makers involved. We should have more later on today.

I just want to thank everyone who responded with ideas, advice and the ability to actually retrieve our prize.

I will keep everyone updated with the results and hopefully, our treasure will finally come home.

Yep, the Tasco is still available, even after it's discussion yesterday. Not surprised with its clammy lens and broken focuser, The bidding has to run its course, and at $95 it is too high of a starting bid.  As mentioned by desitter,  $50 might be a good selling price.

I knew the listing ended quickly, but did that mean it sold?  or did the seller just end it?

(I'm not the one to ask what's classic/vintage, but looking at the receipt)

- ordered in 1996, delivered 1997, so 26+ years

Just over the wire on being a "classic". I think "antiques" are at least 75 to 100 years. Then again, when I think the smoke alarms go off! LOL

As for the AP, if I had that kind of money in the bank I'd already be in Japan or Thailand! No WAY that I'd drop that large of a dime on any AP product! LOL Not that some don't find them worth it. It's just that we have looked through many of them and we never thought that they were THAT insanely good!

FWIW

Says sold on the listing.

There really hasn't been much in the way of sales or discussions on Swifts for the last 3 years, so it's hard to know what they should go for now. At one time a 838 or 839 was going for $300 to $400 if they were complete. Looking at a the few more recent sales on all venues it seems they've gone for less.

I keep tabs on certain models and there wasn't one 838 or 839 listed on Ebay in 2022 and only one in 2021 and one in 2020. The few that have shown up on FB or SGW were usually on the lower side. But condition is also a factor.

Maybe there needs to be a thread called,  Where have all the Swifts Gone? or Who has them?

Very true and weight 100's of lbs less vs a 6" U. But ya gotta understand as a teen i had dream scopes beaten into my head before AP was around. So there are some dream scopes i would pay big money for and even take out a loan like that 5" Unitron i just made a offer for 13k.

"Celestron Moon Gazing Telescope" - $1,500 (Santa Fe)

Actually it's a 9-1/4" Ultima with original tripod and wedge.

"The holder for the range helper is completely snapped off but I have both parts just not adhered back on as the material is unweld-able"

and...

"The angle measure is also snapped but it's still connected, if you want to work it will have to be adhered as well"

Strange ad...
