Hi all,

While I've seen and imaged many beautiful prominences over the last few years since getting my dedicated solar scope, I've always wanted to catch a large, graceful arching loop extending well out from the disk. Today it finally happened! When I checked the GONG website this morning this wasn't there, but it appeared first thing after the sun cleared the trees. By ten minutes later it was gone. I'm a pretty happy camper! jump.gif

Nice choice of a goldy colour too,  just to add that bit more.

That is beautiful.

Luckily I have so long history that I have been fortunate to witness such event during previous solar maximum.

PS I have noticed that GONG site hasn't been up to date lately.

Great catch!

Kevin

Thanks, everyone! I feel very fortunate the trees blocking my view are on the east side of the yard instead of the west, otherwise I would have missed this.

I do outreach at the local Waldorf School and the kids always ask why my pictures of the sun aren't yellow! While I try to educate them as to the nature of sunlight and how we perceive it, sometimes it's just easier to colorize the images! grin.gif

I, too, have been around for a number of solar maxima, but this is my first with a hydrogen-alpha scope. What I'm really hoping for is to be around for the next few solar maxima! grin.gif
