I recently acquired the above as NOS but have noticed that the horizontal movement of RA has become very difficult to move by hand. It doesn’t appear that the motor has an issue. How can this be remedied?

Thanks!

Gday Arcane1125

Need lots more info on "difficult to move by hand" yet "doesnt appear that the Motor has an issue"

Is the mount hard to move when declutched or is it hard to move using the handbox

and if so, what is "hard to move". Ie is it freely moving in some locations and not others???

Need more details.

It is hard to move when declutched. It doesn’t matter where the unit is in relation to the base…it’s just very stiff to where I have to use a great amount of strength to move it. This is whether I try to use the fine tuning knob or move it using the handles.

Let me know if I am unclear or if you need more info.

Thanks!!

Gday Arcane1125

That doesnt sound good, unless is because the clutch isnt fully releasing.

Its a pretty simple clutch that presses a steel plate onto the end of the wormwheel carrier.

If it was preset too tight, it may not be releasing.

How loose is the clutch lever when you declutch,

and when you do set the clutch, how far does the knob move???

If only a tiny distance, you may need to back it off.

There is a small grub screw in it that when released, allows the knob to be moved

so you can adjust the locking range.

If that is totally loose, then something else ( probably bad ) is going on

as when the clutch is released, the whole fork assy sits on 2 large ball bearings

so they may be the cause, but i havent heard of that other than after storm damage.

Thanks for responding.

When I first started using it a few months back, it was fine. It only recently got very stiff. The clutch lever is not loose so both the knob and the forks themselves don’t move very freely. Fortunately it is more of an annoyance than anything else.

Do you have a pic/location of this “grub” screw? Based on what you have said, I think this could be it.

Thanks again,

Chris

Gday Chris

The clutch lever is not loose so both the knob and the forks themselves don’t move very freely.

The clutch lock lever should be very free when it has been moved CCW ( to the 4 o'clock position )

and tighten up as you move it CW ( towards the 8 o'clock position .)

The grub screw is directly  underneath the tab on the lock lever
