Hi, I'm trying to get the EQM-35 connected to Kstars. No matter what driver I use in EKOS, an error msg appears showing "cannot connect to mount". I'm using the USB port on the controller to the PC, but I'm now thinking this port can only be used for firmware updates.

Anyone out there using KStars with the EQM-35 PRO?

I haven't used KStars, but that port can used at the highest baud rate setting - not 9600 as you do normally via handset in PC Direct mode.I think its 11,500 - or something close. I use it with GSS.

I don't use KStars but I do use connect to my ASIAIR and/or laptop with the usb adapter into the hand controller port with no trouble. It's relatively inexpensive as far as parts go.

Thanks FiligreeApogee, I hadn't considered that. Think I've got an RJ45 - USB cable (if I can find it).

Well, I got the USB - RJ45 cable connected but KStars/Ekos still displays "No connection to mount".

I made sure I have the latest Indi-driver for EQ-Mod as well as the up to date drivers for the mount.

Surely someone has done this before and had difficulties! I have run out of ideas on how to proceed.

Did you try using the 'Scan Ports' button inside the Ekos control panel?

Also, which mount are you selecting? There is 'EQMOD Mount' and 'SynScan Mount' to choose from. For my HEQ5 I had to select 'EQMOD Mount' before Ekos would see it.

One thing you can also do is to open a terminal window (Konsole / XTerm / etc) and enter the command 'lsusb' to list all the connected USB devices. Your EQMod cable should show up as some sort of serial device. (I'm at work at the moment, so can't fire up my Ekos system to provide an example.)

Regards,

V.

a skywatcher hand controller has a USB input. use that and put the mount into PC direct mode.

computer to USB hand controller and nothing else required.

if it does not work its a software problem.

Run "sudo dmesg -w" and connect cable to PC. There should be message that tell you which device name it gets assigned. Something like /dev/ttyUSB0. Also baud rate should be set to 115200.
