I was looking at my CGEM II the other night, trying to work out some cable management issues and wondering if there was something that can be used to keep the RJ12 plug for the Nexstar+ controller in place and prevent accidental unplugging or damage to the connector?  Any suggestions or possible solutions?

BTW - nothing wrong with the mount or controller, just thinking aloud about this.

Thanks,

The rj12 plug has a tab that locks it in place. Normally that should keep it in place unless you really pull on the cable and break it. I know they make network cables that have boots to protect the tab from being unlocked accidentally. I've seen these boots available but they need to be put on the cable before the connector is crimped on. You might find a ready made cable but you would need to make sure the wires go to the right pins on both ends.

+1 don't break the tab.  In addition, I use zip ties to secure any cables I have with RJ connectors, with a little slack at the end, to keep tugging forces off the connectors.  Kind of a DIY strain relief.

Yeah, the zip tie is a good idea.
They make reusable zip ties, with a tab you press when you want to undo the zip tie. They work well, and then you don’t need to have a pair of wire cutters to cut the zip tie when you need to indo it.

Locking RJ12 plugs.

Pro: they don't fall out at the wrong time.

Con: If the mount slews too far it can rip off the cable, or pull the socket out of the mount.
