I recent purchased a Skywatcher AZ-GTi mount to use with my smaller telescopes. So far, I’ve been impressed with the mount’s accuracy, but I noticed a glitch where the mount “crashes” when it pans to the west. In short, when I ask the mount to pan to an object in the west, the mount turns most of the way, but then it stops moving, the red Wi-Fi light quits blinking, and the SynScan app displays a loading circle.

I noticed that it doesn’t seem to do this if the azimuth clutch knob is loosened. In fact, if I loosen the knob after it crashes, the red Wi-Fi light starts blinking again, though it messes up my alignment.

Is this a known issue? I’m inclined to return it and try my luck with another one, but I wanted to solicit opinions to see if anyone else has encountered this issue. Thanks!

I ran into an issue like that when i operated the mount from my raspberry with stellarmate.  Turned out I was slewing at a rate that was faster than the rate on the synscan app.  When I slowed to the same as the synscan app, problem went away.  Don't know if you are using outboard software to operate it.  hope this helps.

Oops, prematurely clicked reply. Right now I’m only working with the SynScan app and the mount, so fortunately I can eliminate other technology as being the source of my issue. Thank you for the reply, though!
