I have a Meade 12" LX90 that is coming up on 17 years old. I know that at some point the mount is going to fail and had considered replacing it with a AZEQ-6.

As I'm getting older I've been doing more planetary and lunar.  The LX90 mount has been OK for DSO but I'm noticing more giggle when doing high powered planetary.

Considering the cost is it that much steadier? Are there any other cheaper mounts I should be looking into with a 12" SCT?

Thanks

The Skywatcher AZ-EQ6 is a good mount. It has a 44lb capacity. Your 12" would be pushing it. Normally you would want a mount with twice the capacity of the weight of the scope. I assume your 12" is mounted via a fork to the LX90.  You would have to de-fork it in order to put it on a normal equatorial mount.

An AZEQ6 would struggle with that scope. Look at the CEM70, EQ8, and similar class mounts.
