This site has some images taken with the AT60EDP and a QHY294C Pro camera.

They look pretty good to me.

I’d love to have them!

Again, no intention of being argumentative. I can understand your experience in photography. I started a bit later myself, '67, with a Mamiya C33 and then on to 35mm with an Olympus OM-1 (which I still own) and then Canon's.

Thought I'd post this link here as I did in another thread describing a similar issue as yours: https://www.astrobin...lare-happening/ This illustrates what I've seen in my imaging when spiking occurs and it's always been a by-product of too lengthy an exposure. I was looking through my own collection of images but I've culled those that were "flawed".

I'm really looking forward to getting some imaging done when this abominable winter weather passes. I bought my 60EDP with the sole intention of imaging molecular clouds and faint nebulae so I'll be dealing with star bloating at some point. As kgb points out, the solution will present itself eventually. Cheers.

I highly suspect the cause in fact will remain a mystery, nor will it magically self-manifest. I’ll ask again, but more directly this time: may the focus be, primarily, the product, and not the consumer/user?  300 second subs, with a “heavy” quad band filter, is not asking much of the product.

Again, rather than guessing what might cause an issue I would respectfully ask to try the solution I have presented.  Guessing about a problem after one imaging session doesn't help anyone in this case.  You showed us an issue.  I gave the solution.  Weather is not allowing you a second session.  You already have doubts that our solution will address the problem, but you haven't had it out to check.

And here is a youtube video about another scope from another manufacturer with the same issue you are reporting and how he fixed it.  Which was loosening the screws around the lens cell just a touch.

I have effected your solution. I do not believe the cause will self manifest, nor do I believe a 300 second sub, with a heavy filter, is asking too much. The focus rightly belongs on the product, fabrication or otherwise.

Addendum: the author of the video provided several caveats and conditions, including a subjective “comfort” level. That, I understood. smile.gif

If you do not believe the solution we have presented, which tends to be a universally standard solution, will fix the issue then you are welcome to return the product.

My heartburn is not with your solution, but rather with the implied or express contention from another that the photographer is the cause in fact, or the author of his own misfortune. However, I believe a return might serve all best at this point as I’m tired of being the unfair focus of the issues.

ADDENDUM: your son has to go to college and you have a gross margin-I respect both. Unfortunately, owing to age and several chronic conditions, one of which causes severe back pain, I’ve decided to abandon this transaction as too burdensome. Fortunately, my life’s endeavors left me with that ability. Unless I think it helpful, I’ll not comment on the matter further. Clear skies!

Some additional thoughts:

These forums are useful for finding information about new scopes that you are thinking of buying. In addition getting advice from other users about possible issues once you have bought the scope is also very useful.

But I think what happened here is that after a certain point a significant part of the content really belonged in email messages or telephone calls between a particular user and Astronomics support.

When a situation like this develops, it's intrinsically unfair to Astronomics, which has a reputation for selling very nice telescopes at affordable prices and providing good support to their customers (as is evident from this thread).

Thanks for your comments. How much more fair could I be?  Recognizing his gross margin may not need the hit, and sincerely appreciative of his efforts, I decided to walk away. I did, however, learn a great deal in this thread about potential cures to mechanical problems, and human nature. Clear skies!

Hopefully, we will be able to turn this into a learning experience and find out if the problem had been resolved with the suggested tweak. Until then...

I have had a chance to use my AT60EDP with my ASI294MC Pro. The images and accompanying details are available at these Astrobin links:

M42:  https://www.astrobin.com/h55l4c/0/

M44: https://www.astrobin.com/xwjo12/B/

M48: https://www.astrobin.com/vna9s4/

I am pleased with these results. So far so good. Onward.

Clear Skies !
