There will be a daytime lunar occultation of Venus on Thursday morning, November 9, 2023 visible in almost all of Europe. See map below for exactly where the occultation will be visible. For the exact times of "disappearance" and "reappearance" for over 1000 cities, see: http://www.lunar-occ...s/1109venus.htm .

"There will be a pretty spectacular conjunction of Venus and the Moon in the pre-dawn sky on the 9th November if the skies are clear but the main event occurs from roughly around 9:40am to 10:40am when the Moon passes between us and Venus, occulting it."

Here is how the disappearance and reappearance of Venus will look like as viewed from the U.K.and some good reading on how to capture it.

Weather forecast was bad here and I thought that in broad daylight it would be difficult to see it ... but sky is clear now !! ... and it's bright enough to see easily !! .. sooo nice !!

I was observing naked eye and I saw a plane approaching Moon ... ran in a hurry to pick camera !! ... 5 seconds to power on/configure the camera ... shot !!!!!!     cool.gif

No occultation here in Valencia, Spain (a few Km North of Valencia), Venus was near 'touched' by the Moon, but no occultation happened.

Maps were not very precise.

A good show, anyway smile.gif

Woke up at 3:00 am this morning, looked outside and the moon and Venus were very close. So I went to get my scope, and the clouds came in about the time I got back out. Nothing especially exciting, but it would have been nice to see both of them in the FOV.

According to The International Occultation Timing Association, disappearance for Valencia, Spain was at 10:33:15 UTC and reappearance was at 10:51:49 UTC. So, a total occultation definitely occurred. Perhaps you missed it or maybe your viewing location wasn't near the city-center of Valencia. http://www.lunar-occ...s/1109venus.htm

I live 10Km NW of Valencia (at some altitude, not sea level). I did casual observations of Venus every few minutes and I always saw it or part of it. I assumed that maps are not 100% accurate and being so near edge could mean not full occultation. Maybe I just missed the brief occultation ... I don't know ... and I lost a good chance to test the accuracy of predictions being so near the edge.

Anyway, it's been very interesting, I managed to show (through binoculars) the Moon-Venus pair to several people (newbies) and I already have searched for some Moon occultations in 2024 to see and to test.

Regards.
