So, reading this thread today and someone mentioning the microscope eyepieces fitting into this telescope, I remember that I bought this cheep microscope eyepiece on Aliexpress a while ago wanting to see if it will work in my telescopes. It did not. So I took my TAL out of its box and try on this eyepiece to see if it will work. Bingo! It works! It needs more out focus than even my homemade eyepiece. This is all done in the daytime. I’m hoping for clouds to clear out so I can try it tonight on astronomy targets.

I have a question about the screwdriver included in the set. It is a small watchmaker's screwdriver. Its function is unclear to me. Screws in a telescope require a larger tool and not necessarily a watchmaker's turning technique.

 

Or maybe it's just not an original screwdriver?

It is original as I have two of these received unopened and both have that screw driver.  I agree it is not the right screwdriver for the job, but I assume it is for the primary collimation bolts.

 

With that said, I just noticed something on mine...the putty over the collimation screws is stamped.  Kinda cool.

Will post pictures later, but I picked up a TAL reflector this morning that was listed in the monthly CL-sales watch thread. 7 hour round trip, for $70, and I am very happy to add this to my collection, and now have this and the TAL-1, 4" reflector.

 

I believe this to be the little Alcor model, but this scope came with the OTA, pier mount, and the EP that was in the focuser, and that was all. Does anyone else have one of these, and especially, in the "full package"? I'd like to know what I'm missing from mine, besides the box and user manual. If anyone DOES have a user manual, would it be possible to scan and share it please?

7hrs of driving may have added a bit to the cost.  I remember the Tals when one of the dealers here brought them into Canada in the early 90s.  Interesting scopes.  I actually got the tube from one of the Newtonians when a user swapped it for one with a lighter build.  The wall thickness in the Tal tubes was 2x what it normally was in most scopes.  I used the tube to make a 5 inch refractor.

Worth the drive. Interesting little reflector, all of the TAL's were built like tanks. I haven't lucked into a full kit yet, with this Alkor or the TAL-1 I picked up, but they'll still do. Would love to score a TAL-2 at some point.
