Everything works great on it but one of the lenses, the bottom thinner one has scuff marks or something on it that I can't get off tried lens cleaner and alcohol wipes. I'm trying to figure out how to replace it, but nobody can seem to help me.

The thicker lens seems to be OK so I believe I just need to replace the thin one any help would be much appreciated.

Could use a model/part #
ive reached out to Meade as well, just waiting to hear back

Sorry to hear that. Does it appear to be a scuff on the lens rather than a hard to get smudge? Not sure if you will find a single lens replacement since they could be matching pairs, thus say you did find the single lens, it may not match well with the other lens. I could be wrong on this, so lets see what other optic Guru's have to say about this.

Just curious...how were the views through the scope/lenses? If they look great, than maybe best to leave well alone. Looking at your pics, I don't see any spacers. I'm sure there were spacers, (could be wrong again!) so did you mark where the spacers go back when you re-assemble?

Cheers

Don

I'd try to get a close up look at the marks. Hold the lens up to a light and view with a back to front 25mm Plossl or similar eyepiece and you should be able to check if the glass surface is damaged or just needs cleaning.

When you say thinner, that's thinner in the centre, right? ie the flint.

I wouldn't expect it to affect the view much, but?

If it was me I would instead look for the set of ED lenses APM sold in the same size and FL and make myself a better scope. Otherwise you can just replace the Meade optics with the ones from a Synta made Celestron 6" F8 which are basically the same quality. In fact I would just replace it with another Meade or Celestron scope and put this one back together and sell it acknowledging the issue. Cost way less that way.

Image 1568 (with one or both elements in the objective cell) appears to show the marks in question.  If correct, the mark(s) - at least to me - appear to show wear on one of the coatings.  If you can manage a closer-up view, that will help.  If indeed it is simply coating wear - with no scratching/gouging of the glass itself - then (if it were my own objective) I would not worry about it.  Coating wear - again, if there is no significant damage to the glass - is likely NOT going to impact the objective image much at all.  Indeed, the imperfection may be completely/utterly invisible in the image.

I would concentrate more upon re-mounting and re-spacing the objective in its cell, reassembling the scope, and using it as is.

Best wishes and luck.

Dan
