how fresh is this meteorite?

I have bought this meteorite and wondered if anyone knows how fresh it is or what the grade is?

Not as fresh. It is losing its crust and becoming smooth and shiny because erosion. Looks very much like NWA 869 specimens.

 

Fresh crusts are opaque and sometimes show very well-defined cracks.

 

This is a possible 2019 observed fall meteorite from Lybia (HaH 346), so, this is like a 4 years old crust looks like.

ok thanks for the explenation, would you cutt the stone or leave it? there is nothing know about the stone.

NWA 869s are very common and there is nothing particularly attractive about their exterior. If it is indeed an 869, I would cut it in half.

As far as I know, 869 is classified as a brecciated chondrite. That means, it is an ordinary chondrite that was impacted in the past and pieces of the same rock were reincorporated into the mass in the form of clasts.

 

That's a cool story.
