This is part 2(of 3) in the Gamma Cygni (Sadr) region.   IC 1318a, The Butterfly, I posted a while back.  This is what Origin captures for 1318b. No name designation, but I like it anyway.... it has sort of a "lake/sky" reflection thing going on towards the bottom middle (at least what I see), which makes it kind of cool.  8.5hrs of stacked master tiffs, x2Drizzle PI, Topaz.

I grabbed a couple of globular clusters last night before moonrise. I haven't been all that satisfied with my previous globular efforts, so I tried a couple of new things. I exposed for a half hour on both and processed the resulting TIFF file. For M5 I used GraXpert to even out the background and denoise the image. GIMP was used for stretching, unsharp masking, and saturation. Stretching of the core and the rest of the rest of the image were somewhat separated to avoid blowing out the core.

M3 was processed in a similar manner, but with mild stellar deconvolution added in the GraXpert workflow. No saturation adjustment done in GIMP.

Lets see if this suggestion will improve your satisfaction. Use Siril or any other software to separate stars from the ‘non stars’. Dirch the ‘non stars’ image that will have all the background and haze in it. Just use the stars image that you can color correct, sharpen, and etc. You will end up with the clearer version of the cluster.

Cheers!

Hi all, I'm considering to buy Origin for some AP, also have 8SE from the past with now broken mount. Will I be able to mount and use 8SE OTA on origin moint for visuals? Thanks.

Yes, you can use the Origin mount to attach other scopes like the 8SE.  I use it for a Celestron 6SE OTA that I have.  Other times I put a refractor on it.

You will want to use a NextStar + hand-controller with the mount since the Origin OTA would not be used in that case and you then can't use the Origin app to control the scope.

You can control it with the hand-controller.  You may even already have one from your other set-up.

Yes, it would be fun to try, but I suspect that

a) the star separation might have trouble with the cluster core, and

b) there is a glow from unresolved stars that I would lose.

Thank you, that's great news! I have controller laying forgotten in a shed somewhere. But would love to have evolution like control when I use 8SE OTA, maybe additional wifi module you can buy from Celestron will do that?

I have had a lot of fun with my Origin so far but the user interface needs some work or I need some work! I recently acquired the wedge and I cannot find a way in the schedules to get beyond 30 second exposures. I have the mount set to EQ in settings. I can do longer exposures in live mode but cannot in the schedules. Has anyone figured this out?

I was hoping that by switching to Beta mode for updates it might trigger a newer App version to be downloaded but no luck. It did update the Origin firmware. My auto guider arrives today but seems semi useless if I cannot schedule longer exposures. It should be fine for Live mode but I like the scheduling.

Is there an Origin bugs thread? I have a long list of other things.

How bright/dark are your skies?

Bortle 6 at home in the backyard.  4 at close alternate site.  2 at the remote club site.

The Origin manual in the wedge section states "• Allows manual sub-exposures longer than 30 seconds." I take that as the software won't allow scheduled imaging session to use over 30 sec subs. However, the section on SSAG says 60 sec+ subs require both the wedge and SSAG. I suspect that when you install the SSAG it will enable longer subs.

Of course you don't need longer subs at home or alternate site with no filter. With filter you might see a little benefit at the alternate site and should see improvement with 80 sec subs at the remote site. Anything longer is wasted time and greater opportunity for a satellite, plane, cloud, etc. to ruin the sub.

In related news, we might actually get a few "clearish" nights this week here in SoCal. Fingers crossed.

I like the scope, but it doesn't appear Celestron is 100% committed to it, yet. I would have thought there would be a wider selection of cameras by now, a

Yes, a new camera for the Origin would be nice especially considering Celestron just popped out a new NexImage 20 camera.
