I had an issue with the Dual Band and CLS filters. The filters were skewed in the adapter, which caused the stars to appear as ellipses and the halo around very bright stars to be oriented in the same direction as the ellipses. Eventually, I figured out that the foam seal was larger than it should be, so I trimmed it and reseated the filter adapter. It's quite a delicate job, and this is not well executed by Vaonis. The seal should have a guiding groove instead of just lying loosely on the filter.

Is the housing made from plastic?

Edit: also, how large is that optical window?

The housing is plastic and the filter is 52 mm, clear diameter 50 mm.

Do you have a suggestion for another cheaper dual band 12nm filter or better with a clear diameter of 50mm?

During testing of Vaonis DB and L-eNhance filters, I discovered an interesting thing. As soon as Vespera doesn't have the original Vaonis filter, which it can detect using contacts in the filter holder, it turns off the software removal of banding, because it's not needed for a standard sky. However, as soon as you put a regular 2" filter into a holder that isn't adapted for filter detection, this happens (picture on the right). The test was done with the same Vaonis Dual Band filter, only the contact on the filter was covered during the second test. I assume this is not only with Passengers, but also with Vespera II.

That is interesting. Several people use 3rd-party filters successfully with the Vespera-classic so you are probably right that the banding with an undetected dual-band filter may be related to the specific implementation of using the IMX585.
It will be interesting to see someone repeat your test with both the Vespera-II as well as the Pro.
I don’t remember the values but someone had experimented and figured out what resisters were used in each of the Vaonis sensors. The trick is manufacturing a filter-holder with the appropriate resister included with the contacts at the right place.

I wrote this a while ago. The CLS has a resistance of 10k Ohms and the Dual Band has 22k Ohms. When deploying the DB Vespera filter, it reduces the gain to 15, whereas I use a gain of 26 for photography, where there is less noise and the so-called HCG function of the sensor is utilized, which results in low read noise and a reasonable dynamic range of 11 EV. It is specifically when using the DB filter that the read noise becomes apparent in the image.

There should not be a problem with Vespera Pro, as it only relates to poor hardware implementation of power supply and signal filtering on the board with the IMX585. I believe that the development team will be more cautious about this and will not make a poor hardware design again.

In case anyone is interested, last year I conducted my own measurements with a spectrometer, comparing Vaonis CLS and DB filters. I was interested in the bandwidth and how the filters individually transmit the lines of the OIII and Halpha spectrum. I did not measure the transmission.

Actually a bought an original Vaonis city light pollution filter from Agenastro, at least it came in the fancy box with the chip and everything….

however as soon as I install it 3 (or 1) bands appear towards the center of the picture.

I am going to return it to the seller, I am thinking also I should let Vaonis know, just in case it’s a hardware or software issue.

I am going to attach some pictures (with the filter and without the filter)

Yes, it's a known phenomenon: a faulty filter.

Yup exactly the same happened with me. You can see an example in my thread on here.

Seems like it's a microscopic defect with the lens and it should be replaced with another one. I sent mine back to the shop i bought it from and they sent a new one out for me.
