Just got an email talking about the AT60EDP and it's serious sale price.

https://www.astronom...etzval-ota.html

Very tempted by this, but I'm saving my lunch money to pay for the AT150EDL when it arrives, and I've already got an AT80EDL.

My chief regret after buying and using an AT60EDP, is not the Petzval design, or the quality of the ED glass, or the wide and flat field of view, or the excellent build quality. It is the price. I am outraged, angry, disappointed, and dissatisfied with the with the price

I am wroth, I am irritated, and I am perplexed. Mike, I gave you an honest good review and you repaid me by lowering the price for the next buyers. Have you no shame?

I'd buy it! ...but I'll need a tracking mount and cameras to go with it making it a bit more expensive lol

Got me thinking must admit!

Have a WO GT71 with the Flat 6AIII reducer brings me down to 336 FL & a Redcat 51 @ 250FL could possibly sell both for the 60EDP, 300FL and if it's as good as they say, food for thought!

Having said that I love my GT71, the Redcat i'm saving to shoot the Rho Ophiuchi complex then will probably sell that anyway as it's a little too wide for most my imaging needs.

Interested!!!

I am not an astrophoto guy, purely visual.  But I am a bit puzzled by the inordinate number of WO astrographs that pop up and predominate the refractor section of this site’s classifieds as well as Astromart.  Are the 51 through 81s scopes with issues?  Are they purely starter scopes?  I’m not trying to denigrate them or WO products in general but despite the high price of entry their owners are paying they don’t seem to want to hold onto them long.

The WO brand are really nice scopes but I get your question.

Personally the Redcat 51 I bought for a couple of targets, not a fan of the camera style focuser (which they now resolved), the addition of the EAF cures that but at an added price. The GT71 is an awesome scope with great optics & build quality, my one issue, which I also had when using a Z61 is the adjustable flattener/reducer which can be a pain to dial in correctly to avoid egg shaped stars in the corners although with the wide field this can be cropped out but like I say is my one gripe, this might be one reason.

I had a Z103 also, which I regret having sold! Was able to use standard non-adjustable flatteners with that scope and worked a treat, they never come up for sale & I know why!!!!

Buy another. You know the investment strategy, “dollar cost averaging.”

I placed an order this morning!  Also ordered a ZWO EAF for it.  Looking forward to imaging at this focal length and with a scope that should be quick and easy to set up.

Ordered one today.  Portability, Petzval, and price seemed right for my needs.

I’m a mostly visual observer who has dabbled with some casual imaging in the past. I’ve been thinking about giving it another go and if I do, this is likely the scope I will get. I adore my 102EDL and I’m sure this little scope will perform just as well. Hard to beat that sale price…

I order one yesterday and FEDEX says I'll have it Monday. That price is too good to pass up!

Chicago, IL must be a FedEx hub because that's where tracking says mine is today.

When I drive to Norman, I don't go any further north than St. Louis.

I bet ours took the same flight to Chicago to be loaded on different trucks from there.

It's here!

Hooked the camera up to it and too eager to try it out I went outside without the mount. Using a handy ladder as a prop I focused visually on a distant tower, guessed at an appropriate shutter and ISO and took a snap.

It worked, so I'm happy. Now I've got to dig in and start prepping for some night time use!

Order, pay, and they shall deliver. Got my new AT60EDP today; package and contents carefully packed and well intact. I have to say, the build quality on this scope is better than I imagined. Quite solid. I am not prepared to do any testing yet, but did screw a 2" eyepiece (plus a 22mm m48 extension) on the back of it for a quick look. Aimed it at some tree branches about 100 yards away. Exquisite contrast and no false color detected. Then aimed at the daytime moon which was just east of the meridian. Again, no false color detected and as contrasty as one could hope to expect with the daytime moon.

I'll be able to better assess the optics once I get this out under the stars which will have to wait until I am done with my current imaging project. So far so good.

Nice! Looks good although your focus does look is a little soft on the tower. When do you expect to start imaging with it?

It is a bit (quite a bit) out of focus. I was trying to focus while looking through the viewfinder and hold the rig steady.

I haven’t had this camera long and am still trying to learn it. I’ve been trying to learn to use it without a laptop but it seems like it’ll be much easier to connect up after all.

I’m remodeling a room so hope to get out this weekend weather permitting.

Not an AT60 but I'm considering an AT72EDII as a grab and go on a light mount for quick peeks.

The 72EDII would be a better choice than the 60EDP for visual for sure. waytogo.gif
