Is it possible to see any sort of twilight when the sun is 17.9 degrees below the horizon

I guess that makes sense. The sky glow present in the sky really did seem like residual twilight (as it seemed to be brightest around the horizon), but I guess that’s just not possible…

I have a feeling like your second bullet hit it. If it’s possible for air glow to reduce as the sun further sets, this would explain it.
