The ASIAIR Pro and probably the Plus has an annotation feature you can use while shooting, but one time (over a year ago) I was also able to shoot and save what was being shown while using this feature.  This feature doesn't show any more when you save the shot.  This was really nice when you had a few different targets.  Does anyone know a way to shoot & save the annotation now, or is that really not possible?  Really hoping it is available somehow.

I attached one photo to show what I could get some time ago but not anymore.

I just do a screen shot if I want to save the annotated image. Or your stacking software might have similar annotation features, I know Siril does the same kind of thing.

What version of the software were you using when you had the annotation feature?

I have no idea what version of the ASIAIR Pro software I was using at the time as the software is updated by ZWO from time to time and a message just informs you that it has to be updated and nothing will start unless you update the software right then.  But sometime after that I tried to save a photo with the annotation and the photo saved but not with the annotation.  I try this from time to time, including last month, and I still do not get the annotation.

I tried to find out from ZWO what happened just after my finding the problem and I think the message said they never had that option.  Others at the time said they had the same problem and missed having that option as it was handy to show others just what was showing in the photo.

I don't use the ASIAIR software, but with ASILive software the user can decide when to do an update, i.e. it is not automatic. That feature is handy, as I have rolled back from the latest version of ASILive on those occasios when annoying bugs have been inadvertently introduced.

It's a shame that the ASAIR does not allow the user to manually control updates.

I've been using the air for 3 years now, it would never save the annotations with the file. The file it saves is raw unedited data (if you are talking about preview, autorun, or plan at least), it would never write such additions into a .fit file. I just do a screenshot on my phone, hold volume down and power button simultaneously and it snaps a screenshot easy peasy (not sure if all phones are like that but should be some combination or from the pull down menu) my prior phone was three finger swipe down on the screen would capture a screenshot.

To stop the software from auto update you have to do that in your phones update settings ahead of time. Once you see that message it means the phone already auto updated and it has to finish updating the air, its too late to stop anything at that point.

The file I am talking about is the 1.5 to 2 mg file that is saved to your (my IPAD) when you press the save button in Live mode, not the fits file.  The fits file has nothing to do with what you see on the tablet during the evening, it is basically the raw file that you can process at some other time.

That function broke after one of the last updates. Ive reached out to ZWO several times and they promised it was going to be fixed. In all honesty its seems ZWO software development team is more focused on the Seestar, leaving the ASAIR languishing.

You can take the FITS file into say, ASI FITS Viewer (part of ASI STUDIO), and I think annotate it there.

You can also use ASI STUDIO to save the FITS file as a PNG file (that's what I do). Pretty sure that saves the annotations as well.

The file size will be much larger, of course.

The FITS file isn't just for post processing. I use it and don't do any post processing.

Yes, it doesn't save your histogram changes, but you can always save that jpg as well but tapping the save button as you currently do. You can also take a screenshot of your screen showing histogram adjustments and, maybe, replicate those in ASI Studio (not sure if that's considered post processing, though).

In regards to ASIAIR App development: https://bbs.zwoastro...c-beta-released

Looks like they are working on fixing the bugs.

To quote: Fixed an issue where annotation information could not be saved when saving a JPEG (iOS)

This hasn't been an issue for me because I use Android phone or BlueStacks on Windows 10 or Windows Subsystem for Android on Windows 11.

I

The beta version of ASIAir will save the annotation along with the image. I had the same issue and loaded the TestFlight app and the latest beta version and it works fine. Don’t have the app running right now but think it is 2.1.2.

Looks like I am using v2.1.  V2.2 is not available in the Apple App store, so I guess I have to just wait for it to appear.  The next night I can get out I will try to put the annotation on the screen and press the button and the next day see if it comes through on the fits file.

2.1.2 is the latest Beta (not 2.2) and it is only available via Test Flight for iOS. I posted the link to the beta thread over at the ZWO forums in my previous reply.
