so you would  from $2000 for a mint 142 down to what amount for a missing tripod tray?

If just the tray then 1600 smacks.

Trays are not worth $400.  Anyway,  this is all opinion  so what the heck.   You call it the way you want to see it.

Unitron 127, pre-1959. Beautiful scope. Value is in the eyes of the beholder. These show up occasionally in the classifieds, so a search may show what they have sold for. This one looks to be in great condition, so it should place in the upper end of that range.

It's currently for sale on FaceBook and has already been discussed in the ads thread.

It's only $125 and the seller won't ship otherwise it would be long gone.

I started the comment on that scope in post 35.  I have been in contact with the person for over 10 days and went to pick it  up on Sat/Sun. She keeps stalling.. Like a game.. That is common on CL and FB

I always pay way more if it is something i would really want. Well worth it to have a scope to look at set up in the house. Avg price around 1100 to 1500 smacks but if extra mint and all the parts are there and no fogged glass it can be worth way more.

Don’t let them pick on you Chas. No pockets in the coffin.

I ended up not getting it. Viewing through a straw does not seem to be a viable proposition.

There are two Unitrons listed on Facebook in Michigan both are close to one another. I wonder if they came from the same person left to two different sons? I have been watching that one to see if it sells or they lower the price. Nice one, unihex and clock drive.

Might be, not that interested, but I thought I would show it here just to observe some of us old timers still think some vintage scopes we coveted, are really not in much demand anymore. It looks real nice & what? 10 years ago he may have sold it real quick.

I collect old radios too & have seen the market take a dive.

I agree prices are coming down. I got my 150 in April for a ridiculously low price. The new APO’s and triplets are hurting the old classic’s. A new 5 inch triplet is $1400. I have not looked through one but they have very good reviews. I like old stuff that was well made. I still look for Unitron’s I would buy a 3inch although it probably wouldn’t be that much better than my Sears 6344 that cost $129.

3K is way high. Even 2k is kinda high since the lens needs to be taken apart and cleaned if the fog can even be removed. I sent a 4" lens to Unitron in 1987 to have it cleaned and they did not get it 100% gent.  Scope was mint when i got it in 1986 and sat in the boxes for over 24 years.  But the lens got fogged.

I have the Unitron 140   complete from 1959  great condition  really nice  and sharp...and we  love the Alt Az    I also had a 142 mount for it from the late 50s...sold that 142 mount  last year  pic 1.....  still have the complete 140 kit  Show it at Neaf each year     pic 2.... What  is also cool about it is that I have a 1.25 tube for it  so it plays well with nice  1.25 eyepieces                              but may let it go at some point..................

Beautiful scope! I was a little concerned that the offset weight of the 140 would be a problem on the altaz mount, but it proved to work very well.

Love all the Unitron Alt Az mounts   could use them for many applications and scopes

Also like  their well-made Equatorial mounts

Looks like you have the white plastic dust cover with red letters.  Things were changing on the mounts around 1957-58. My around 1955 M160 had the all metal jar lid looking dust cover and all metal SLO- MO rods with the big RA knob.
