This is my sketch of M41 on 26th February. I only have about 4 or 5 open cluster sketches in my entire collection so I will try to sketch more of them. M41 was my first ever sketching target back in 2021.

My favorable magnification for M41 was 23x. This magnification was high enough to glimpse some fainter stars but not high enough to disperse the entire cluster in eyepiece. There was an orange star right at the central of the cluster; it standing out like a sore thumb.

I also noticed there was even more orange-yellow stars in the cluster when I observed M41 again on a next day but I haven't updated the sketch yet.

I used an 80mm f/5 scope for the sketch. The sketch was done first by pencil then got digitized in Photoshop.

Thanks for reading and Clear Sky as always waytogo.gif waytogo.gif waytogo.gif waytogo.gif !!!

That's a beautiful capture with an 80mm scope, especially those colours give it a vivid feeling. Nice!

Hello very good workwaytogo.gif

how do you proceed? You create brushes in Photoshop? Or is it real stars into a brush?

I've tried in Gimp with brush pencil, for yellow and blue stars, but it's not very good like you.

Thanks

I used brush to basically re-draw the whole sketch in computer. Also adding faint glow around some bright stars makes the sketch looks more realistic.

I have used GIMP before it is fine. But I prefer Photoshop. You just need to experiment more to find what setting looks best to you.

OK thanks. My goal is like you to try to have the most faithful rendering of the stars. Which seems easy at first, but really isn't at all...
