Looking for a solution to “trick” the software into save a “custom” park position ( OTA horizontal) other than “home” ( weights down looking at NCP).  Tried several things with both EQMOD and GSS, either gets “lost” and would not sync to a position if encoders were not sync to a home/park position pointing at the NCP.

I don’t understand why software gets confused, home/park being two very different things. I tried to sync encoders to a “horizontal” park position then sync “home” to a “weights down / point to NCP” position, in either case the mount got lost and would yield the usual “coordinates out of sync limits” error when I try to solve/sync a position in the sky.

Most likely I’m doing it wrong, appreciate if someone can point me in the right direction.

Just moved my scope to a more permanent location inside a low profile shed that needs the scope horizontal so the roof can be closed. I would like to be able to define a  horizontal park position to avoid having to slew it manually at the end of each session ( and eventually be able to automate the roll off roof to close at the end of a session after parking the mount)…

They are different.... But then  again, they're not!

Why? Because mount needs to know first what side of horizon is NCP. If it can't, it will bring weights on your CW side up, and the scope down.

So, you have to set the mount at home position first, and then set it at the "park" position.

Tried that, resync encoders to “home” (weights down, pointing to NCP) then slew for desired “home park” ( OTA horizontal) and re-sync encoders for a default PARK position.

What happens:

- Mount in real life: SW assumes you have moved/reset the scope manually to weights down/NCP ( but physically OTA/mount is still horizontal).

- Confirmed by GSS SIM: 3D rendering moves to a weights down/NCP position

Haven’t tried in the EQMOD SIM, but had the same issue with real mount

If you next try point the scope to a position in the sky, it will wander off to a weird place thinking it is starting at a weights down/ NCP ( instead of the custom park position)…

Did you try to set home and park positions with an HC? You have to bypass EQMOD for the initial use, as an external software and mount's firmware doesn't corespod to each other, sometimes.

Once you did it from the HC menu (both respectively),  you can use it in EQMOD regularly. At least, that was my case: Same problems, but now it's Ok.

Tks for the reply, my HC stopped working with the Eq-G long time ago, just have the serial interface

OK I think I figured it out for GSS ( simulated mount a great help!): to define a park position different than “home” I found out you need to “save” the desired park to a location ( like “default”) from the SETTINGS menu. This successfully established a park position different than “home”

I was incorrectly trying to define my “custom” park position using the sync option from the main menu, which, I suppose, assumes you want your home/park positions to be the same and equal to CWD/NCP.

As precaution deleted the other “home” and “custom” park positions and just left “Default”.

Slewed mount back and forth to/from park ( OTA horizontal), home, solved random locations and all worked out perfectly.
