We get most (not all) of our money back on TX and are fortunate to be in a position to handle the loss. Also fortunate that if I have to "waste" a little and still see it elsewhere, I'm fine with it. If it was TX or stay home in NC, we'd absolutely, 100% be going to TX.

Definitely one of those situations where having options is maddening. I/we (I said above this is my decision alone - egad, I hope my wife doesn't lurk on CN) will eventually make a decision and, I suspect, relax a good bit.

Same here. What tipped our hand is that our booking made on booking.com was yanked just 3 days ago. Not by the website, but the owner of the property. Same old excuse of it being double booked, offering another place for $100 more, then saying that went out due to crazy bidding on another website. Price gouging, nothing more.

But it helped us to get back our money. And flights became credits. Since the pandemic we only book hotel rooms that offer cancellation as late as possible, so that worked out too.

Yikes. That is crappy.

I was just able to give my only non-refundable bit to a friend who is going ahead with Texas. So I will get a text if it was clear.

Northern Maine was totally worth it! Beautiful weather. And we decided to go to Houlton ME, the northernmost point. Almost no traffic on the way there, only some traffic on the way back! And plenty of parking while there. They seemed organized for this.

We ended up in greenfield, IN. A beautiful town with 4 minutes of totality. There were high clouds that threatened to thicken but they held off long enough. A spectacular 4 minutes.

Our original location in Texas was clouded out. Second Texas had a spotty experience. Third was worse than fourth but we’d have seen it both places. New York (in laws) clouded out. In the end, we did as well as we could.
