I expect to be showing people the Sun in the hours before the eclipse, will there be anything to see?

Earlier this week I took a quick look at the Sun and saw no spots at all.

It takes 24-34 days for the Sun to rotate (depending on latitude) so in the next 4 days 1/3 to 1/4 of the Sun we see now will disappear from view and portions we last saw about a month ago will reappear.

Someone must make sunspot forecasts I expect.

Another good site, but do not see any forecasts on it.

There is that one sunspot near the limb according to the Spaceweather site that's decent size but I don't know if that sunspot is coming or going. I haven't been able to view the sun in at least a week due to all the crummy weather here so I've lost track of things.

Sunspots move from left to right on the face of the Sun (from the perspective of Earth), so that one will move more into view over the next couple days. That should help focusing.

It blows my mind how we have been having a great show of sunspots including the massive AR3590 just a few weeks ago, and then a couple days ago with the eclipse soon upon us, there is nothing. What gives! Near solar maximum, and the photosphere is practically a blank slate. How unlucky.

I see now a decent spot coming into view, so there is that. Hopefully another spot or few pops out the next couple days!

The folks on a fine website, linked below, regularly post spectacular solar imaging.

Those living in the sourhern hemisphere: for you, it will be from right to left (unless you are upside down)!

----

The sun looks very dull compared with the views two weeks ago where there was a huge group of spots, and if wasn't the only one.

I hope the spot near the limb is not the only one on Monday. Although, for that day, I prefer a great activity in the chromosphere around the limb and the corona.

Maybe I misinterpreted the Sun image posted on SpaceWeather; I based my analysis on pictures like this, which make it look like the sunspots move left to right across the Sun.

Your interpretation was right (!!), but only if you are in the northern hemisphere.
The image for those in the southern is turned 180 ° because they are "upside down" from the perspective of a northern person in the space.
To their eyes of a southerner, the south pole (earth or sun) is on top of the north.

Hopefully we'll at least have that one sunspot to focus on. Would have been nice to have a bit more activity considering we are, you know, nearing MAXIMUM. Did you hear me, Sun?

This is a white light solar filter image of the sun taken this morning at 10:25am PDT.

Looks like the sun spot (#3628 I assume?) has moved towards the center a bit from few days ago.

AR 3628 is showing nicely today and nearing the middle area of the sun.  There are several other smaller sunspots scattered across the sun to aid people in focusing tomorrow.

This was my view from Central Kentucky today at 2:00 pm.

Taking the image from RAW to Jpeg to snip and downsizing it killed the quality however, I'm in focus.
