Any place I can drive to?  Can't leave until early morning on the 8th.  Weather (cloud cover) doesn't look so good here for eclipse viewing.

North of Dallas is about as far as you can go then.

It's very possible that on the morning of the 8th you won't be able to get very far unless you stay off the interstates.  It won't quite be the hurricane Harvey situation (in which motorists were stuck on IH-45 for in some cases 23 hours) but 4 million visitors to the DFW area are going to overload the roadways fairly early, especially as everyone tries to move in response to the weather.  First responders are genuinely concerned that they won't be able to respond to emergency calls on Monday.  Better to make your best guess from the Sunday forecast and make your move late afternoon Sunday instead of Monday morning.

That makes no sense. Fredericksburg is on the line of maximum totality.

The weather is pretty much the same anywhere you can drive to.

We have an Eclipse Weather thread here.

https://www.cloudyni...loud-forecasts/

22 pages of handwringing.

(If you read some history you will find that this has happened to national observatory astronomers in the past. You never know until you get there.)

Clear Skies!

I'm also here in Fredericksburg. Just 5 mile west of Walmart on 290. There are a couple of abc San Antonio news trucks in front of the cabins I am staying in.

I’m in Ingram west of Kerrville.  No better, and I can’t make NE TX, OK, or AR, so we hope for the best.  If not, I’m here for a month relaxing and hiking in the hill country.

Texarkana, Mt Pleasant, Paris TX would be my destination if I were in Fredericksburg.  It’s a drive but good chance to see it.  Right now most of the hill country looks clouded out April 8.  Aaak!

latest astropheric gives the impression of the clouds maybe breaking up around fredericksburg at show time

instead of solid it appears to be patchy- patchy if it is then it is luck of the draw-  we will know when we see it or not but each new astropheric has a glacial trend in the right direction

I mentioned it here before. Cumulus clouds disappear during an eclipse. You can’t out Fox Mother Nature. I’m in the same area. I think we’ll be fine.

We are in Austin, Texas, heading to Johnson City later this morning. Austin is completely covered with clouds, and I’m not expecting much of an improvement in JC, but we’ll see.

Foggy here in between Fredericksburg and Stonewall.  The sun is starting to try and peek through. Hopefully, it will burn off the fog.
