I've run several successful tests with EO and my Canon EOS R5.  Suddenly, EO is unable to recognize my camera when I start it up.  I've changed nothing about the way I do it.  Connect camera to computer via USB-C.  Confirm the computer has recognized the camera in the Device Manager.  Wait for the EOS software to automatically turn on.  Close the EOS software.  Launch EO.

EO then attempts to open my script but includes an error message saying the R5 is not configured/connected.  Of course this is happening 1 day before the eclipse.

Any ideas???  I'm desperate.

I've never used EO, but just some general troubleshooting stuff you might have already tried (never hurts to try it again).

Unplug USB from camera and PC

Power off camera and take battery out, leave battery out

Shut down laptop (don't just reboot), disconnect AC adapter and remove battery if at all possible, leave battery out and AC adapter unplugged for 30 seconds

Reinsert battery in laptop, plug back into AC power, power on

Reinsert battery into camera, power on

firmly plug USB cable into camera and then into laptop

Wait for EOS software to do its thing

Launch EO

If that doesn't work, you might try a different USB port on your PC and/or a different USB cable.

Apologies if this stuff has you barking up the wrong tree but sometimes it's just an electrical gremlin and getting everything fully unpowered for a bit can cure it.

Hopefully you will get some other replies from folks who have actually used EO. Good luck!

Sometimes I have had to reboot my laptop to get EO back to a stable state.

Thanks - sadly, this did not change anything.  I even tried using a different camera battery.

Have you made totally sure that EOS utility is closed before opening EO? I say that because maybe it's running in the background or something even after you close the window. You might check task manager in Windows to see if perhaps it's still running.

Edit: Here's a thread with folks who had similar issues (not sure if the cause is the same as yours though). Read through it if you haven't already: https://www.cloudyni...n-2017-not-now/

All I can say is check that everything is set correctly. Once EO says it can't talk to the camera, I've always had to reboot the computer.

Verify the camera is set to M. For good measure, reformat the card in the camera. Bring up EO and verify it is configured for the right camera (Setup/Hardware Configuration). Very good advice to verify EOS software isn't running before starting EO.

Check 2 things.

Ensure the USB cable is routed away from the laptops power cord....the EMI can cause the cannons to not respond.

I suspect this might be your issue though, go into "Setup", "hardware config" and make sure there is something in the model/serial number dropdown.

That had unselected for me recently and it took me a bit to figure it out.

Thanks - the camera is not listed in the model dropdown.  This is the whole problem.  EO is not recognizing that there is a camera connected.  Eos utility does.  In File Explorer the camera is there.  Eos utility is definitely closed before I launch EO.

the only weird new thing that happens is that I get a window that pops up when I first connect the camera to the computer and turn it on.  It says:

“USB device might need more power.  Your PC might not provide enough power to the USB device.  Please connect your device to external power, or try using a different PC.”

I’m not sure what this could mean but this issue remains when both camera battery and laptop battery is fully charged, and also when laptop is plugged into external power via AC adapter.

Any thoughts?  It is a relatively new computer running Windows 10 and has worked perfectly until now!

I’ve reduced the brightness of the screen on my laptop and that seems to have gotten rid of the “USB device might need more power” message, but EO still does not connect to the camera.  I’m losing my mind with 30 hours to go before the eclipse.

No idea on the USB power problem. I don't know if the power info is related to specific wires in the cable (meaning bad cable) or a USB protocol thing (meaning bad hardware) or maybe a corrupted driver. My *guess* is this has nothing to do w/ EO.

For EO, one thing to try is renaming C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Moonglow Tech\Eclipse Orchestrator\Config\config.ini to something else, then reboot (always reboot after EO says it can't find the camera) and try again. It should have lost all camera info. Maybe run EO several times. If that doesn't work you could try the same thing with the setup.ini file in the same folder but that will wipe all info about which eclipse, your location, etc. The reason to try is maybe one of these files got corrupted. EO's error reporting seems very poor to me.

Interesting idea. What should change that file name to? I have a script saved so i can easily import my eclipse location data etc.

Is the idea that losing all the camera info will make it easier to recognize it again?

Maybe one of the .ini files got corrupted and EO gets an error trying to process it and skips some important processing, like checking for cameras.

To be clear, rename the file to anything other than config, for example OLDconfig.ini (but make certain EO is closed before you do it). That would make EO lose its settings and create a new config.ini file. Keep in mind that you would have to set it up again (not sure if you tweaked any of the program settings). You should still be able to load the same script.

If that doesn't solve anything then you could always go back in, delete the "new" config.ini file and rename OLDconfig.ini back to config.ini. That would restore the configuration back to the way it was.

Also, normally the AppData folder within a user profile is hidden. So you would have to either go into options to show hidden files/folders or you would have to type that path (with your actual user name) into the address bar in file explorer.

Do you have another windows laptop you might try? Even once several years old sitting around might work if you kept the install file.

Also could try a different program on your current laptop to rule out EO causing issues. I know a lot of eclipse programs stopped allowing downloads, but could download and try backyardeos

File name to the name of your camera. Load it. Close the program. Open the settings. Change the description to the name of your camera. Reopen eo.

There’s also the check boxes for newer canon cameras.

There was a thread about using sharpcap…

Sorry, could you clarify?  I’m not sure what “file name to the name of your camera” means…this is something to do in EO?

One problem I had was Canons EOS Utility interfering with EO. I found that the EOS utility launches on boot up and hogs the camera on the USB port, causing the camera to not be recognized by EO. In addition to trying the things advised by the previous posts, have you tried uninstalling the EOS Utility? Try that and see if EO recognizes the camera then. That helped me with my Canon 5D2 and I had no problems launching after that. Use task manager to make sure there are no instances of the EOS Utility running to be sure after the uninstall.

Un install EOS Utility and then reinstall?  Or just leave uninstalled?  I’ve been using EO with the Eos Utility installed (but obviously not running) with no problems until yesterday…

I left it uninstalled. You don't need it to run EO. EOS Utility loads stuff on boot up and seems to hog the camera and won't share it with EO.
