Hahaha same here. I’ll be 80 in 2045 and seeing how my Mom is right now and how my grandfather was, it should be doable. I also set another totally unrealistic goal: The Paris eclipse of 2081. I’ll be 116 then.
Good luck on 116!

IF I am still alive and IF I am still capable of traveling, I'll be there. Those are two very big IFs, though.

I am planning to go to Montana in 2044 first. I will be 71 years old but should be still alive and kicking. Then of course the big one in 2045. We thought clouds and traffic were bad, 6 minutes of totality in Florida. That is going to be one nervous week deciding to go to Florida for max totality time or go west. for better weather.

For a change, this eclipse goes right over where I (currently) live. I'll be in my early-50s so pending something unfortunate I should be able to see it.
I think right on the coast of Florida will actually be going viewing with the onshore wind in the late morning pushing everything inland. Cumulus clouds for sure, but I think the eclipse will burn them off.

A word of warning - it will be hurricane season in Florida. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Hurricane Eclipse has a nice ring to it.

Someone get a shot of totality through the eye.

I already know exactly where I'm going for the 2045 eclipse.
Posted 16 April 2024 - 04:05 PM
The totality path is crossing a large part of Northern CA. If I'm still around, definitely will be going!
Right now I'm thinking about Spain or Morocco in 2027.

I’ll be 60 for 2044, but if I still live in the same place (Alberta), I won’t have to travel at all!

For those who want to stay in the US for the 2044 eclipse, Sunburst MT seems to be a good choice logistically and observationally. There is a good balance between eclipse duration (1m 33s) and altitude (6.4 degrees). It is right on Interstate 15, and there is a decent east-west road that runs over mostly flat terrain.
The downside is that many people will be drawn to a town called 'Sunburst'(!)

I've already told my kids to "Put me in the wheelchair and haul me up to Chico" (about an hour away). I'm able bodied now, but will be 90 then.
Since I missed the eclipse this year (bailed out due to weather), if nothing else I figure getting to the 2045 event will be a "reason to live".

If I decide to move to a warmer climate after retirement, I may decide on the Panama City area in Florida. It happens to be at the cross-point of the paths of the 2045 and 2052 total eclipses. With the way the weather often goes, I may very well end up instead in the western US in '45 and Mexico in '52.

I will be about 97 years old then. So not likely to be there. I count myself extremely blessed to have seen the 2017 and 2024 eclipses with family.
If I am still alive in 2044-5, I'll just harass my grandkids to go there until they get tired of listening to me.
