Hi all,

 

I'm wrestling with image blur when stacking partial solar eclipse SERs.  With all the setting variations I've tried in Autostakkert!4, the surface of the sun keeps blurring where it's crossed by the limb of the moon. 

 

Does anyone here know of a method (perhaps not including Autostakkert!) that will allow me to process my SERs into stacked TIFS without blurring?  I'm open to any reasonable suggestions.

Can you share examples?

 

Have you looked through your entire SER container to see if it's because of wind or shake or dark/lines in the frames periodically?

My best advice is to try the expand function to break your ser into smaller amount of frames. For example my 12” capture video was 3400 frames but I used expand set to 150 and 150 to generate individual stacks. If you want more with some overlap then set for example 150 and 75 and the start of the new stack will be at the center of the previous one. Just toss the ones that don’t look good. Also you can split the entire ser into individual frames with PIPP and then drag and drop specific groups of frames into AS!4. That was my only solution near the start and end of totality.
