The FAA requires pilots to use oxygen if at altitudes between 10,000 and 12,000 ft for over 30 minutes, and at all times over 12,000 ft.
I worked on a power plant in Wyoming that was built at an elevation over 7500 ft. It took a while for most to get acclimated, and we had workers who came from much lower elevations get altitude sickness and have to leave.
