Hi all,  I'm kind of floundering here on the pics I took during the eclipse.  I've tried two different packages (AstroSurface & AutoStakkert (versions 3 & 4)). I know the focus wasn't that great but what I would like to do is bring out the colors I saw during the eclipse.  I took 2 one minute long SER videos during the eclipse and then extracted the frames into FITS files so I could grab sub-sections of 20 FITS files for developing pics.  But the colors in the pic from AutoStakkert 3 resembles more a B&W pic than anything even though I can see highlights of red in the individual FITS frames.  AstroSurface generates a pic with green being the dominant color from it's FITS files.

In case it matters, the pics were taken with an ASI533MC camera,  The resulting PNG files from stacking were way too large to be included here so I ran them through Win11 Paint in order to reduce the size.  I do note that apparently in Paint, when I open one of the large PNG files that were generated by stacking and then simply save it the size of the saved file is MUCH smaller than the original PNG file. Haven't a clue what's going on there...

Can I get a push or shove as to how to bring the out colors that resemble something I actually witnessed?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

What colors did you experience?

Have you adjusted the white balance or temperature?

Very best,

Thanks Marty, the colors I saw closely resembled these in a pic a friend of mine took with his SLR although the red color was much more intense and the corona was much larger.  I know that no camera will match my eyes, but as my friend's pic shows, the camera should be able to grab the data.  I just need to figure out how everyone does the post-processing to show that data.  I can't even figure out how to show a histogram of the stacked pics.  The only histogram I've been able to show is in SharpCap when actually recording the data.

As far as adjusting the white balance or temperature.  I haven't a clue as to how that is done in either of the software packages.  Can you give me a hint as to where I can find them in those packages?

Hi,

Post processing in a pixel editor (Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, GIMP, etc) would make this trivial to adjust the color via a levels adjustment or temperature/white balance adjustment.

GIMP is free.

Color is highly dependent on the atmosphere at the time and location for this event. Lots of light pollution will produce brilliant color. Zero pollution will have less color really and it would just appear more "white."

Very best,

Here's your color photo thumbnail using color balance

in RegiStax -- color balance gets rid of the green

dominance and shows the pinkish tint of the chromosphere.
