Hello folks,

I have just noticed some strange spots on the surface of my camera sensor. They are those foggy spots in the picture. They seem of oily nature but might be wrong.

 

They are not on the protective cover but the sensor area surface. I wonder if i should remove the cover and try to clean that with isopropyl?

They are not directly in the way of the sensor but right on very edge, seem to not have yet any effect on photos but still worries me.

Are those possible cooling fluid leaks?

 

Would love to know if anyone had similar problem and resolved it. No warranty anymore on my camera.

Should i just try to clean it, any remarks on cleaning this sensor?

Looks similar to the 2600 oil leak issue. Never seen one with a 1600.

I searched the internet for something related to what you reported, but I didn't find anything. Looking at the photo you posted, it looks like the leak is inside the sensor, not on its surface. If the leak is on the surface of the sensor and if you have any idea how to clean the sensor, try it. Clean the sensor with a microfiber cloth. But if the leak isn't interfering with your photos, I would leave it as is.

That was my concern as  well. I don't want to rush disassembling therefore.

To clean the sensor search youtube on how to do it on a DSLR camera, the procedure is basically the same. There are several kits available and they are inexpensive.

 

But keep in mind that if you open the camera inevitably some speck of dust is going to get on the sensor.

I have cleaned CMOS Sensors before with this product https://a.co/d/bEhOqAv

It worked great. In reality what we clean isn't the surface of the sensor itself but the cover glass that is fused with the silicon wafer.

I wear cotton gloves and also have a bulb air blower handy so that I can blow off any dust.

I also have a loupe so that I can closely inspect the surface of the sensor before I close off the chamber again.

I've had several occasions of this with my asi1600 :

 

 

1. upper left: this is what i saw on a photo
2. right: that's what was visible on the sensor. I had not yet opened the camera here.
3. lower left: same star field after cleaning.

 

It looks to originate from the rubber ring at the edge of the sensor.
I've cleaned it with 70% alcohol.

I had this on my 1600mm. It was easy to remove with cleaning pads for DSLR bought on Amazon.

I had this as well with my ASI1600mm. I believed the sources was dew on the sensor that caused some residual flux on the board to migrate to the sensor. I used Pec Pads \Eclipse fluid to clean. These are pads designed to clean DSLR sensors.  I needed a lot of them to get it clean. 

 

If you follow the instructions and do not reuse the pads you can get this cleaned without damage.

Thank You all for updates on that topic, I have cleaned it yesterday, no problem, used same stuff i use generally for optics, lenses etc. 

This smudge was actually causing some reflections resulting in doubled stars in one of the corners, I thought it was miscollimation but cleaning solved the issue.
