I have found someone selling an edge HD 9.25 but it has built in fans, I can't find it online how old it might be or even that one with built in fans existed. Anyone have information on this one?

Those must be adds-on by the previous owner.

Given the fact that these are modifications, would you say the scope is still worth the decent amount? If I got it for 900 would that be worth it or is it worth less since it's modified like that

Be cautious.  $900 is priced to sell, and would be a steal.  But it is a steal, why?  Fans, Bob's knobs, flocking: those are some serious mods and involved taking the scope apart.  The mods DECREASE the price of the scope as you don't know if the previous owner put it back together right (eg orientation of the corrector plate, dinging or scratching the mirrors, etc.).  Doing that to a new scope voids its warranty if that tells you anything.   That is why it is priced as it is.  (Think of buying a used car, if the owner said he took apart the engine and rebuilt it, would that give you more confidence?)   Edge series are excellent as is.  Put on Reflectix to control thermals, maybe a Feathertouch microfocuser, better finder scope you are good to go (note all external mods, involve no opening of the scope).

So if you can test drive it and are experienced to know what to look for, go for it.  Otherwise I would pass.

PS I am not bashing the scope, the previous owner could be an expert SCT user/amateur telescope maker (ATM) and knew what they were doing (like my example the person could be a professional mechanic) in which case you can have more confidence.  But definitely a try before buy situation.

He says he got it as part of a bundle deal to get an AVX mount and then he was just going to sell this separately to make up some funds, so he's just trying to get rid of it more than anything. But you would say it's worth the $900? How much would modifications decrease the value of the scope compared to buying another used one that doesn't have those mods?

A new C9.25 Edge is $2999, so $1500 for a working,  good condition used one is more than fair and a good deal.  If mods don't effect "good condition, working", then there you go.  If they do, well...

Lots of holes drilled in there. Who buys a C9.25 edge, punches holes in the OTA then says he just bought it for the mount?  Hard pass for me.

Maybe the seller bought it used as well (bundle deal from another user)?

is it possible to look through the telescope before purchasing?? If so, I'd ask to look through on a good clear night and see how it performs.

Good luck!

I have bought 3 scopes from him in the last few months. He sells a lot of stuff and is fine to deal with.

Hopefully there are HEPA filters between the fan and ota otherwise it’s a bagless vacuum for pollen and other bunk.

350k for astronomy, and now facing the scope of your life and the seller is a good one, what are you waiting for?

:-)

PS the fans might not be genuine but they look like.

Seriously, you seem to know the seller quite well. Why don't you ask him how come that lavish mods and then the owner selling it? I 'd never do that unless ... said this before. He'd tell you when there's sth wrong with the scope.

Well, his judgement might not meet your demands on a past insane....never forget that category

PS2: Sorry can't just leave this. The mods on this model seem to be a rather hinderance than a goodie at reselling it.

As you don't seem to keep any scope, even a very good one for a longer period this special one doesn't seem made for you.

the price is great, the mods can possibly be same and if the optics itself is decent this scope is certainly a keeper, no trader

Not the scope of my life for sure.  If it was a freaky sharp fork mounted C14 then maybe that is. I am gonna pass but gonna get a 8" Meade OTA LX50. The seller had nothing to do with the mods as he bought it that way. He sells a lof of scopes. I don't see a need for a Edge version.

me neither. I'm glad with the Starbright version. Nevertheless it could be a great one supposed the mods really make sense, (the fans don't really for proper insulation does enough)

I think all in all a good decision. But 3k for a 7" or 8" Mak, I spent 1.2 k for a 7" Mak and don't think it was worth it, now having the 9.25 for 900 bucks :-)

I'm still not sure if the step from 2080 to 9.25 was worth it, at resolution and light grasp.

But it definitely is at coma reduction and mount comfort. The fork is really enjoyable though it needs two axis tracking.

And independent from optical smoothness, the coma reduction is supposed to be the same at all non edge 9.25 vs. C8 and C11

So definitely no need for the edge 9.25 for visual. Don't forget that the 9.25 was specially designed for AP in the pre edge ära
