I have the OG canon 6D, which i think needs EF lenses (mostly i dont use this dslr very often).  I do have a tamron 300mm lens (Tamron EF 28-300 Di VC PZD Japan f/3.5-6.3), but for the last eclipse i used a cheap $100 lens off amazon which suffers from some chromatic abberations on the fringe at times, set it to around 650mm, worked out ok, but could be better im sure.

I think lenses are either hard to come by or very expensive for this dslr, but was planning ahead and maybe going to try to find something 600mm in the name brand variety either used or new.  Guessing 650 means getting one of the type that go in a range instead of fixed.

Would something like the tamron coupled with some sort of 2x extender also work to get to 600mm more effectively than the $100 amazon 400-800 lens i was using?  I think the canon 2x required a certain type of lens (L type)?

650 would have been more ideal i think but 600 works, i see alot of hsm or contemporary types, but i dont think those are compatible, trying to not spend a fortune but get something better quality, although maybe this sigma is?: (seems contemporary vs sports, so less professional but cheaper, not sure if matters for solar)
https://www.amazon.c...k_ql_qh_dp_hza   (edit looks like this one does work and even with the 2x)

There is also this for $670 (Tokina PRO Reflex F8 MF CF, SZ 600mm), unsure how it differs from others i saw that are $14k (way out of my range)

*i was hoping whatever i got it could be forward compatible with  newer canons (full frame), but i guess maybe it wouldnt be with mirrorless.

Any thoughts or suggestions?
