I called Questar today to inquire about an accessory, and was told that Jim retired this past Friday.  I spoke with Jim Perkins who said Jim R is in good health, but with a couple of family members needing attention, he was ready to move on.  I know from this forum that Jim's late father also had worked at Questar so quite a bit of company history is tied to this family.  I first met Jim when I dropped in to the facility in New Hope in the summer of 2012 and he made it easy for me to decide to go ahead and purchase a 50th Anniversary scope.  Meeting Jim, it was easy to understand the personal touch and dedication to service and quality that defined the "classic" nature of the Questar experience.  I asked Jim P (who said it was ok to pass along the news) to make sure that when he speaks with Jim R to let him know how much he'll be missed!

Best, Mauri

I knew Jim and his father from my days with Questar back in the early 1980s. I will be wishing him all the best on this next chapter in his life.

Thanks,

Ron

That explains why when I emailed Jim R with a question the other day I received a response from Jim Perkins. I also interacted with Jim's father back in the 1980s. I wonder if Jim Reichert's position in Sales/Customer Service will be filled by someone new.

Jim Reichert was always a pleasure to deal with and a wonderful example of the finest in customer service that I have ever dealt with.  Jim always made time to listen and truly cared about the needs of the customer.  Best wishes Jim from someone who will surely miss your presence at Questar.  Enjoy retirement!

I was deeply saddened to hear this but happy for Jim. When back in PA. (from AZ.) I was blessed to be only ~½hr. away from the Questar shop. My wife and I would drive up for H/W acquisitions and it was always a pleasure dealing with Jim. There's a 'Questar family' and Jim would make us feel that affinity and feel at home in his showroom which was admittedly looking a little austere due to supply chain issues. In fact  the last time I spoke with Jim only a couple of weeks ago was regarding a camera mount for an OM-10 35mm film which he had in stock: I'm hoping I can still pick it up! Any idea who will be at the helm? Thanks Mauri for passing this along to the community. waytogo.gif

Jim Reichert was wonderful to work with through all of my purchases, and instrument servicing.  I will miss him, and I’m sure the folks at Questar will also.

Good luck Jim, and have a happy retirement !

Several weeks ago when I couldn't reach anyone which I put in another thread I finally did reach one of the ladies and told them what I was looking for in products and went out there actually on the 10th. Originally I was going to do mail order my wife says no we'll take a ride out there. I'm glad she suggested that otherwise I wouldn't have had my final meeting with Jim. They can fill his position but it will never be totally fulfilled with his personality. He was a unique person in customer service will be sorely missed and I don't think they'll ever be another one like him anytime, anywhere. Enjoy your retirement Jim it's well deserved.

Jim has been a pleasure to talk to over the past few years. Always going above and beyond in trying to help even when my questions were rudimentary or trying to find weird applications for use with the Q 3.5.

Of course will miss him at Q HQ. Wish him all the best in retirement!

Thanks Jim. To those of us who've never made the pilgrimage to New Hope, jim was more than the voice of Questar - he was Questar personified. May he have the retirement I'm certain we all wish for him.

I'll echo the "Enjoy Retirement Jim R" sentiments posted here!  It was always a pleasure to talk to him over the phone or in person.  His assistance with the Questar scopes and perspective on the industry were very appreciated.

 "All the Best".

Now Jim P is, well, the Jim at Questar.

I'm wondering if there has been any talk about a potential buyer. I would hate to see Questar just fold which I hope - and pray - it doesn't do.

I think all of us at one time or another dealt directly with Jim R. or Jim P. and had nothing but amazing personal interactions, a rare occurrence in today's environment. Here was my experience. I wish for nothing but the best for them and the great company that Questar is.

Oh dear, what sad news! I just saw this thread accidently. I go back to the early 70's (and before with my dreams) with Questar. Paul Schenkle sold me my first Questar in 1974. Jim Reichert Sr. sold me one and Jim Reichert Jr. sold me a 3 1/2 and a Q7. I'm now on my sixth Questar. I cannot imagine that both Jim Perkins and Jim Reichert are now gone. It's with a very heavy heart that I learn of this today. Questar has been a huge part of my life and if there would be one thing that I would take to my grave it would be a Questar. Who in the world could ever replace these guys?

Please tell me this is not true!
