I am planning ahead for future eclipses and looking at possible cameras. The R8 is a contender. It reportedly works with EO, is small to take in a carry-on, has a decent frame rate and won't break the bank. I'd like to hear from people who used it during the April eclipse. How did it go? Were the results satisfactory? What settings did you use? Etc...

Thank you

Sue

I too will be interested in reading any responses to your request as I have been considering upgrading to a Canon mirrorless from my trusty 5D II. I like the small size of the R8 but not the small battery. I have seen videos on YT about the R8 overheating in both photo and video modes. This would be a concern, especially for the upcoming eclipses in rather hot climates e.g. Egypt and Australia. An alternative I am also considering is the R6 II. It uses a larger battery with twice the life of the smaller R8 battery. No reports of overheating that I could find. Also, a major consideration for me is compatibility with EO, as I only do scripted camera control for eclipses. Both R8 and R6 II reportedly work with EO.
