Hi all,

We're here in Étretat, on the rocky outcrop of La Manneporte, which offers an exceptional view on the famous arch and its nearby peak.

The night of May 10-11, 2024 was truly extraordinary. The forecasts predicted auroras, but who could have imagined such a spectacle in the Normandy sky?

In any case, I don't regret the sleepless night I spent photographing this grandiose sky.

After a few nights' rest, I went back to work on this panorama made up of 8 images covering an area of almost 180 degrees, from east to west. Only a small section is missing on the left (west), which showed an almost symmetrical structure to the one on the right.

The colors range from the green of the auroral arc to red, pink and even bluish traces in the pillars. The yellow color is due to light pollution from the street lighting in the town of Étretat. The aurora light was so intense that the sea reflected the colors and the cliffs took on a pinkish hue. I even had to lower the saturation of the aurora's colors, which were so vivid...

In the end, stitching was easier than I'd feared, despite the eminently moving nature of the aurora.

This panorama is made up of 8 images taken with a 6-second exposure, an aperture of f/2.0, an ISO sensitivity of 800, a Canon R6 mk II body and a Sigma 14 mm f/1.8 Art lens. I used AutoPano Giga for stitching, then Photoshop for color balancing.

Clear sky

Fred
