Yesterday locally I purchased this off of Facebook Marketplace. I was only buying it for the wooden tripod legs. But I took a look thru it with the 0.965 25mm Kellner that was included & it was extremely sharp on trees & house chimney & no CA.

This scope is hefty for it weights more than my Celestron 102mm Omni f/6.5 Altazimuth refractor. I always keep my equatorial refractors in altazimuth mode. The only thing I don't like it doesn't have hinged tube rings for balancing. I would like to buy a hybrid star diagonal to use my 1.25" eyepieces. Anyone still using one of these & know the focal length?

I have one that i mounted to an AZ3 mount with hose clamps, i bought a new focuser to use 1.25 eyepieces I even peeled the label off and put it on focuser. I agree that this scope is a surprise. I did a side by side with a C80 with 26 mm silvertop plossi. the C80 is better but not that much I plan on giving the C60 to a family member.

I have one of these on an alt az mount. Bought it years ago for my son instead of a new video game. He barely used it.  I did and it  got me hooked on the hobby!

Should have replaced the focuser with a Crawmach focuser years ago when were available..  I bought a cheap Telescope Warehouse replacement for 1.25 eyepieces but it didn't fit the tube.

Anybody have any idea of a  source  for a focuser upgrade?

The problem is those scopes have a larger diameter tube than the almost standard size of other 60mm scopes (Towa, SYW, APL, RAO, Carton, Vixen). Your best option might be to buy one of those all metal Chinese focusers on ebay and somehow adapt it.

I encountered a similar problem when mating a larger Unitron tube to the more standard sized 60mm scope focuser.

I made an adaptor from a ABS plumbing coupler and a piece of PVC pipe.

ABS-Adaptor.jpg

The coupler had threads inside the larger end that when filed down the focuser would slip into.

Then a strip of a PVC pipe was glued around it's other end to make it the same diameter as the inside of the tube.

Heres a test fit of it assembled when the coupler still had some of it's outside ribs before sanding them all off.

In my case I didn't have to shorten the tube to keep it in the range of focus,

but later I shortened this end by about a 3/16"anyway.

Yep.  It's the somehow adapt it part where it gets interesting.  The ebay solution might work or me because while not great quality, they look light enough for my light setup .And if I can find one that matches my  ID and OD this time, I might have a winner.

Your solid metal focuser for your Unitron looks great.

Thanks so much for you help and interest
