so I want to create custom eyepieces for software (like skytools / sky safari, etc)...so when I plan my sessions I can see what FOV I will see.

everything is afocal for now

so I want it to look like this:

NV - 67mm

NV - 40mm

etc

is it as simple as making a custom eyepiece then focal length then 40 degrees? just wondering if anyone has done this or organized it well in their software.

Yes, for an afocal stack it’s just that.

For a stack in prime focus it’s a 26 mm(*) 40° AFoV eyepiece (and barlowed it’s shorter divided by the barlow factor).

(*) The paraxial magnification corresponds more to a 27 mm eyepiece, but for AFoV/TFoV calculations use a 26mm eyepiece.

I made an excel spreadsheet with all of my eyepieces. I put the formulas in each area and they do all of the calculations for reduction amount/effective focal ratio, magnification, and TFOV.

yes same here. I am finding it helpful to plan sessions out while keeping this spreadsheet up...the numbers aren't quite memorizing into my brain just yet.

have one for each telescope

the spreadsheet isn't pretty...but whatever

I need to add in the focal ratio reduction calculations and "Night Vision" eyepieces
