I'm looking for some advice please. New to the forums here but been doing astronomy for well over 40 years.

I currently image in WL using an ED80, Lunt Herschel wedge, auto focuser and an AS174MM with an all up weight of 4.7kg (10.3 lbs) on a HEQ5 mount. No issues at all.

Thinking about set up time and ease of use I'm considering a SkyWatcher Solar Quest mount but realize the weight limit\balance might be an issue.

Is anyone using a similar weight rig on one of these and how is it performing?

I'm more than happy as is but the simplicity is appealing and would be great for a future dedicated 40-50mm Ha solar scope.

Cheers,

Pete.

I love the SolarQuest.

Specified weight limit is 11 pounds. But one fellow used and 18 pound OTA and said it tracked.

I would have no concerns if you stay within the specified weight range.

I love my SolarQuest - so far I have used it with a RedCat 51 and DSLR for white light but I'm hoping to get something more solar-specific within its payload later. It's a breeze to set up and get going.

I use mine with a Lunt 80 and a double stacked Quark Lunt 35mm combo

Just used it today for LS60 DS. So easy to use. If only tuning was half as easy…
