does anyone know of a plug for baader 1.25" clicklocks that doesn't fall out.

I think I need a plug without a taper because when the clicklock is closed it squeezes it too much and falls out when upside down.

open to any material (plastic, aluminum, whatever)

and no i don't have a 3d printer and no i don't know of a machine shop...just wanna buy something already made.

I use these clicklocks in a few different things so it would be super useful for me. thank you!!!

These seem to be un-tapered. Hard to tell, for sure. I just now ordered a set:

These seem to be the same (?):

I'm not sure if they'll have the same ones in stock or not, but you can try the dust plugs that High Point Scientific sells.

I bought some stuff from HPS a few months back and included some of their 1.25" & 2" plugs in with the order. The plugs are white in color but more of a translucent plastic than typical plugs I've gotten, and they also seem to be a little softer material. Although they're still tapered they fit just a little tighter than all my other plugs.

I typically tighten the plugs in slightly to help hold them in, which works fine with compression rings, but I'm not sure if it'll help any in a 1.25" ClickLock. One of my diagonals is a 2" twist lock (AT2D) and tightening a dust plug doesn't seem to help in keeping it from falling out.

EDIT: Here's a link to them ->

https://www.highpoin...h-barrels-epdp1

I not sure what I was smokin' at the time to have paid $2/plug. I must've been needing them bad or was fed up with losing them at the time, because I ordered a big ol' bag of 1.25" & 2"

What happens if you just tighten the click-lock partially, until it just touches the plastic plug?

Do you have a short FL plossl like a 4mm to stick there, they usually work even better as a dust plug, the plastic ones always deform a little allowing dust to get in, but a cheap EP always closes the gap.

Yeah good idea…that does make it sturdier - but it still just slides out if I move too fast. Or if I just even graze the caps.

i’ll do that from now on with these tapered plugs. It’s for sure better. Tyty

i bought the caps suggested above with no taper on the pic. Fingers crossed.

I'd be happy to print you some in the color of your choice.    Your cost would be materials (maybe 25 cents each) and shipping (probably $4-5).

Try the old Kodak or Ilford slide tubes, Fuji are too wide

Yes, so now instead of a $.10 set screw or $0.80 for a couple sets screws and a brass clasp (both included with the scopes, diagonals, etc) you get to pay $100 for a Chinese-made accessory that can freeze locked.

The orange Televue dust caps seem to be tighter than my other ones. Not sure if you can buy just the caps, but maybe?

On one scope, I used a 1-1/4 collimation cap that I picked up used for a few dollars and filled the small hole with Hot Melt.

I actually keep dessicant plugs in my scopes, a combination of home made 3D printed ones and some More Blue, which are much nicer.

Per my post #2... I received the 6-pair set of Neewer 1.25"dust caps today, and neither the plugs nor the caps are tapered.

I have the same issue. The trouble with the cheap plastic plugs:

Tapered: fall right out. The two narrow, lengthwise grippers in the 1.25" Clicklock don't extend far enough out  to engage the sides like a thumbscrew or brass locking ring.

Non-tapered: so poorly manufactured, they bulge at the end and have to be forced into the hole. You may not get them out without pliers or pushing from the opposite side.

The only thing the Clicklock holds well is a rigid, accurately dimensioned eyepiece barrel.

I know this is an old post, but $35 for a focuser plug? You MUST be joking! The way I go through losing plugs in the field and transporting back and forth, I’d be broke and homeless in a month! lol.gif

I just said I like them.  I've never purchased one and didn't know how much they cost when I posted that.  They came with my telescopes.

The best I have found for my 1.25" Clicklock is an plastic 35mm film canister. Fits perfectly, and engages solidly with the locking mechanism.

It's surprisingly poor engineering by Baader. I switched in a Tele Vue orange plug and it stays snug.

+1 on what PJ says about the photo film container . . . I have an excellent 1.25 inch plug that I got years ago: It was made by Vixen for Celestron Refractors. (Maybe someone can post a photo ???) It has a translucent (milk jug) plastic and has two concentric rings with a "V" in the smallest ring. What is great is that the Full Moon is seen (20mm Diameter) when the focal plane is adjusted to be at the 2 inch SCT Diagonal Flange and the (milk jug) material is acting as a screen to view the Meade M-8 SCT prime focus image. What I have works great, but I have no idea where you could get one like I have . . .

Best,

Ed
