It is a ancient topic, but I'll share my experience with Kstars recent release.
I'm also running it on a macBook with BigSur.
I don't have any issues to download and install the lastest release. Up to 3.7.6 right now. It does work but since 3.7.x, I encounter bugs that were not present in previous releases :
- unable to detect my Canon DSLR
- planetarium very slow
Up to the 3.6.7, everything is working fine. So right now that's the version I'm using. I've reported those issues. I've been told they should be fixed (in INDI for DSLR). I keep on upgrading at each new release to check if this get solved, but problems are still there release after release so far.
So they might be some kind of issue related to Big Sur...
