Hello friends,

In the past I have often wondered who built the lenses for these refractors - do any of you know?

Thanks !

I had one of the Tasco 10K's and have a Meade clone of it form about 1980. Both of these have Circle T, Towa objectives. You'll find a lot of posts on Towa 339 clones.

I suspect TOWA had more than one optics maker - the lower quality of the bundled eyepieces points to that.  My 1978 Tasco 15K (Towa 339 + motor drive) had an Excellent objective (both main scope AND 6x30 Finder), while eyepieces were marginal above about 150x...

Replacing those with a Meade 1.25" prism diagonal and a set of Research Grade Orthoscopics let that lens show its stuff.

Yes, during my collectors-time I owned 7 Towa/Tasco/Danubia 80/1200 refractors and they were all excellent !! But in my opinion TOWA never made lenses themself, but ordered them from other suppliers, as good old Bomber said correct.

Kind regards, good old jumble Micha

Lovely BLUE... especially with the black hardware & LOTS of nice Chrome!  [Should've kept my 15K - but my new D&G 5" F10 sidelined it.]

Kyanon Kamara Kompany AKA Canon Optical Company made the lenses for my Prinz 660 76mm F/16 refractor, could they be the same suppliers ?
