What was the last EP that you brought?  How long ago was that and was it new or used.

My last purchase was a new, Vixen 6mm NPL Plossl in September 2022.

Panoptic 35 TV last week, i bought it because reading posts arguing about which is the best widefield eyepiece made me do it, CN fault, and of course CN posters are forcing me to start looking for my next eyepiece already.

Yesterday a Skyrover 82° 7mm.

But what is interesting me would be to know, since you seems to have premium widefield eyepieces, why you bought a short FL plössl, and how you like It/use It.

I bought last year this same 6mm, because It was really cheap, I like the line, needed short FL and find It not that bad difficult to use. Sharp and contrasted.

Thanks.

My last purchase was two eyepieces: 15mm and 10mm 70° "Super Wide Angle" eyepieces from Agena Astro. They were purchased new.

Really nice eyepieces - great quality. Unfortunately the outer 50% of the view is pretty soft compared to my Tele Vue Plössls. I'd rather have 100% of 50° be sharp than 50% of 70°... if you know what I mean.. (I think I need another coffee!)... dalek12.gif

Clear skies!

Rick

EDIT: I bought them in Sept 2023.

Last purchase was a used Oberwerk 14mm 70 degree eyepiece to use as an upgrade to my finder scope. I needed a glasses compatible eyepiece that offered more magnification than the stock 23mm that comes with the finder, but didn't want to sacrifice to much AFOV.

Still evaluating it. The combination of astigmatism in the F3.75 finder + field curvature leaves stars looking a little funky at the edges. The alternatives I've tested is a 15mm DeLite - much cleaner stars at the edges, but a bit less magnification. Both offer a similar TFOV (4.1 degrees for 15 DeLite, and 4.2 degrees for the Oberwerk). The functional TFOV in the DeLite is probably larger because of the better edge correction. But on the flip side, I don't want to spend $270 on a new eyepiece for the finder, so I think I'll stick with the Oberwerk.

4.5, 6.5 and 9mm Morpheus all in the same purchase. Ordered them a couple months ago from FLO. A few sessions with my existing 12.5 and 17.5 got me converted from my Delites, I had no choice.

SVbony 7-21mm Zoom. Bought over a year ago. First new eyepiece in some time.

I use this on my grab-and-go telescope, a Takahashi FC-100DF. When I first take the scope out, I use the zoom to judge the seeing and then decide if I should grab the TV Delites.

I also use the zoom with the Tak when doing solar observing. I have another zoom on my Lunt Ha solar scope and like using zooms when doing solar observing.

Nagler 16mm T5 to match the one I had. Bought it used a month or so ago from a very good CN member.

Vintage Celestron 26mm silver top, used (highly obviously). Bought last week and it's still in transit to South Africa. Will probably be another two weeks.

I enjoy threads like this, nothing to fight about, just good plain fun sharing..

The last eyepiece I purchased was a used 20 mm Orion LHD, back in May.

The eyepiece I really want is the 20 mm Type 5 Nagler but they're rare and expensive. I already have the 22 mm Panoptic and the 20 mm XWA so it's hard to justify the 20 mm Nagler. The 20  LHD has a 80° AFoV, a slightly wider TFoV, and quite a bit more eye relief. It's about 2.5 ounces heavier and a whole lot less expensive, $160 shopped.

First light did not go well. The eyepiece was sharp enough but the twist up "eye cup" was funky and did not block any light. I reported this to the LHD thread here and Richard among others told me I should remove the twist up eye cup and replace it with a rubber eye cup.

AgenaAstro seemed to be out of stock of any rubber eye cups that might fit so I was forced to look through my boxes of miscellaneous junk.  Fortunately, I found an eye cup I had purchased as a replacement for the 28 mm UWA when I was experimenting cutting one down.

I was actually able to make it fit and with the greater eye relief of the LHD it's very comfortable and I even found a cover that's a perfect fit.

I like it, I've been using it quite a bit though I haven't found a place for it in a set. The other night I was using it in the high desert along with the 42 mm Panoptic in my Zenithstar 103, a 4 inch F/7 FPL-53 doublet.

It could fit in as a honorary Morpheus, replacing the 17.5 mm and providing the ~80° AFoV like the others. I can see a case with the 30:mm UFF, the 20 mm LHD, the Morpheus's and a 1.25:inch 2x Barlow.

32mm Masuyama yesterday.

I want to see if I can get the same true field as my 40mm Pentax XW at a smaller exit pupil in my f/10 SCT, and I want to see how the Matsuyama performs in a fast flat field refractor with 2X and 4X PowerMates.

19MM Panoptic from B&H a month ago or so.

Edit: wanted to add, my TV did not arrive with a bolt. Kinda corny and not sure if this is normal?

30XW, like new open box discount from FirstLightOptics. The only of the XWs I've never owned. Interested in seeing how it compares and contrasts with the 30 UFF.

A beautiful, used, mint Ethos 6. Then yesterday, could not resist a pair of Zeiss W-PL 10x/23 online, even though I have at least 15 eyepieces waiting to be sold.

I’m not sure which was the actual last, but I recently ordered a Skyrover 30mm UFF (new).  Then last week a 20mm type 5 Nagler showed up in the CN classifieds - they arrived home about the same day.

After 20+ years of being totally enamored with my 3mm Radian I decided to get it a mate for use in my fast refractors.  In April I picked up a 4mm Delite that fills my one remaining slot in the lineup.  I have quite an eclectic mix for my scopes and having one each of these famous lines is somehow very satisfying.

Last week I bought a Nikon NAV-HW. It's the 17mm and it has another lens to make it a 14, kinda two for the price of one......which is good, because you don't want to buy too many if these, at least all at the same time. It is a fantastic eyepiece, at least to me it is....I admit I haven't looked thru every one ever made though.

The 17HW has incredibly tight, sharp stars, and not a shred of spherochromatism/chromatic aberration. Contrast and transmission is as good as it gets. It's just as good in 14mm mode, and even gains a bit of eye relief on top of its already borderline luxurious eye relief.

I keep mine in 14mm mode because the focal length makes more sense for my needs, and it vignettes in the Paracorr 2 in 17mm mode.
