I just received a Svbony 7-21 zoom. Have tried it only briefly between clouds on Jupiter with my TV-85 and 1.8 Barlow. Looked very sharp and contrasty at magnifications of between 120 and 135, which are typically best around here in that scope. I look forward to trying it on the moon. I have a 28mm RKE coming in next week and will report on that too.

I just got my first (real) scope earlier this month. The last and only eyepieces I've ever bought aren't even here yet. Very excited to get them though.

5mm TV Nagler 6 (arrives tomorrow)

24mm TV Panoptic (backordered, who knows)

Before I even got the scope I learned that the 9mm Plossl that comes with it is garbage and the 30mm Superview is 'ok'. I searched the forums for 'beginner eyepieces', '10" dobsonian first eyepieces' and every variation thereof and read every thread 2 or 3 times.....round and round we go, until I finally decided to pull the trigger last week. I bought them based off you guys' wise and learned experience and advice, so go easy! Y'all own this!! Everything I know came out of your brain!

When choosing the EPs, I struggled for a while looking at TV's Optics Calculator, using the 2x barlow and 4x Powermate columns to target 350x max, minimum 2mm exit pupil and a decent relief. It occurred to me that folks get barlows to increase the magnification, but an excellent 5mm at 250x is probably going to be the most reliably useful mag and produce an image unadulterated by the additional lenses of a barlow. I'm also not real clear on when barlows start to go wonky when paired with certain FLs, FOVs and field stops, so I'm leaving the Powermate for another day, another eyepiece and a bit more experience.

My budget for now is pretty blown, but I could squeak out another couple hundred. I was thinking of maybe getting a nebula filter.

Welcome aboard CN  : )

9mm GSO plössl's aren't garbage, but are actually pretty good. IME

They are just not long eye relief, nor wide field by today's standards.

Mine works for me even glasses on by not trying to take in the whole

fov at once, but by following the planet across the field side to side.

No, don't use it often, but when I do it works better then I remember.

They are offered with scopes because they work, not as a forever ep.

But so the user has something decent to work with starting right out.

139x is modestly high useful magnification for lots of targets in a 10".

Haven't had a chance to use it yet, it's been cloudy since I bought it and will be for the next few days. The 35mm is one of my favorite eyepieces so I have high expectations for the 45mm.

Similar boat, I love the 30mm and am super excited for the 35! With the added endorsement, doubly so.

I'd actually rather the 9mm Plossl than the 30mm Superview which I found to be absolute junk even in a 9.25" SCT let alone an f/5 scope. As mentioned above the biggest problem with the 9mm is the eye relief, which can be partly aided by folding down or removing the rubber eyecup.

I've been fortunate lately to been snatching up some very nice vintage and hard to find eyepieces. The latest one is a Made in Japan Antares 25mm elite Plossl.  It looks to be un-used. I think these are the same as the Celestron Ultimas and Orion UltraScopics...

I got some Long Perng Plössls (55°) to complete my Plössl kit, which consists of SVBony SV207 (8, 15, 25, 30mm), Vixen NPL (4, 6mm), Baader BCP (32mm), and now Long Perng 55° (12.5, 17, 20, 25mm).

In total, I have 11 mid-level Plössls, which cost me 310 euros new. They offer really great views for me, my scope, and my skies.

I think I'm done with low-element eyepieces, at least for now! Well, if Baader would consider making a 12,5mm and 24/25mm BCO, I would reconsider my statement.

I was thinking to do the first thing too, but then hesitated. June is way too late for these to be released.. We will probably have counter custom fees happening until then in the EU : /

The 34mm SV136 arrived a couple of days ago and I was able to give it a go on the SW ST120 between breaks in the clouds last night.

This is my kind of eyepiece. Why? $60 and it meets my low expectations! Seriously, though, it meets the specs. The center is sharp with good contrast, astigmatism and spherical aberrations begin at around 15-20% from the edge, but seem well contained. This eyepiece is the first 2" that I've owned and I now "get it" in regards to field of view. I'll be keeping an eye out for another sub-$100 2" in the 20-25mm range.

Found me a University Optics 8.4mm to 21mm zoom eyepiece in very good condition. I don’t believe that in all my years in this awesome hobby, that I have owned a zoom eyepiece. However, I'm a huge fan of University Optics equipment so I shall finally have one. Cheers!
